<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 12pt"><SPAN style="COLOR: rgb(153,153,153)"><FONT face=Arial color=#000000>The <STRONG>Motivational Interviewing</STRONG> <STRONG>Network of Trainers </STRONG>Incorporated (MINT) is now accepting applications for the 2010 Motivational Interviewing: Training New Trainers (TNT) workshop<BR>to be held in San Diego, California, October 4 - 6, 2010. There will be 3 simultaneous TNT<BR>workshops: all 3 conducted in English.<BR>Purpose:<BR>In these intensive 3-day advanced workshops, proficiency in motivational interviewing (MI) is<BR>assumed as a starting point, and the focus is on trainer skills and exercises to facilitate the<BR>learning of MI and its adaptations. Trainings are designed to prepare human services<BR>professionals to teach and train these clinical methods, which have been shown to be effective<BR>in enhancing behavior and outcomes. Participants will learn a well-developed, sequenced and<BR>integrated set of strategies for teaching clinical skillfulness in MI across various settings.<BR>Participants will develop and practice strategies for teaching MI skills.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 12pt"><SPAN style="COLOR: rgb(153,153,153)"><FONT face=Arial color=#000000>The workshops are intended to prepare trainers to:<BR>. Explain the conceptual rationale and background research for this approach<BR>. Teach the basic clinical skills of motivational interviewing<BR>. Strengthen reflective listening skills<BR>. Teach brief negotiation strategies for use in health care settings<BR>. Teach recognition, elicitation, and reinforcement of change talk<BR>. Strengthen skills in rolling with resistance<BR>. Teach negotiation of change plans<BR>. Demonstrate the clinical methods and conduct role-play training<BR>. Employ a range of innovative training techniques and exercises<BR>. Apply the methods to a variety of settings</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 12pt"><SPAN style="COLOR: rgb(153,153,153)"><FONT face=Arial color=#000000>Enrollment for the workshops will be limited to 120 participants (40 in each section). Early<BR>registration (after receiving Notification of Acceptance) is advised as enrollment for the annual<BR>MI-TNT event closes quickly (see TNT Requirements on how to qualify and how to apply).<BR>After successfully completing a three-day TNT, participants are eligible for membership in the<BR>international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers Incorporated (MINT), a nonprofit<BR>organization devoted to supporting quality in the dissemination of MI. Certificates of<BR>Participation will be issued upon completion of the TNT workshop, although MINT does<BR>not formally approve, certify or license trainers. Participants who cannot commit to the full<BR>three-days of this training should wait to apply for a future TNT.
