<P><STRONG>American Journal of Public Health increases impact factor<BR></STRONG>The <A href="http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=KCACXOavNX8GXaTgwMXLqg..">American Journal of Public Health</A>, APHA's premier scientific journal, recently raised its standing among its peers. The 2009 impact factor of the American Journal of Public Health is <IMG hspace=5 alt="AJPH logo" vspace=5 align=left src="cid:FGVDLNIKSTUF.14221.jpg" width=201 height=143>4.371, up from 4.241 in 2008. The Journal ranks second of 95 titles in the public, environmental and occupational health category of the 2009 Thomson Reuters Social Sciences Citation Index compared to the previous year's #3 of 76 titles. It ranks ninth of 122 titles compared to the prior year's tenth of 105 in the same category in the science edition. The impact factor is a measure of the frequency with which an average article is cited each year in the two years after publication.</P>
<P><STRONG>APHA's Healthiest Nation video wins award<BR></STRONG>An APHA video developed as part of National Public Health Week activities recently won recognition from the International Academy of the Visual Arts and its 2010 Communicators Awards. The video titled "The Healthiest Nation in One Generation" chronicles the life of a child who lives a healthy life thanks to the work of public health. Written comments will be accepted until July 15.<BR><BR><STRONG>FDA to hold training sessions on new tobacco regulations <BR></STRONG>The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Tobacco Products is hosting five upcoming retailer training sessions about the new federal tobacco regulations. Applications for the current cycle are being accepted through July 29.<BR><BR><STRONG>PHAB seeks applicants for Tribal Standards Work Group<BR></STRONG>The Public Health Accreditation Board is seeking six to eight volunteers to serve on a Tribal Standards Work Group. The individuals should be in leadership and/or public health professional roles and have in-depth knowledge of tribal health departments, especially in the areas of administration, public health functions and policy development in tribal settings. The work group will develop a tribal-specific set of standards, measures, documentation and interpretation guidance, based on PHAB's standards for state and local health departments. <A href="http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=sY6QlASBLuWYYz-A2l7vfQ..">Applications</A> are due July 30.</P>
<P><STRONG>Share your ideas on how communities can take action to improve health <BR></STRONG>The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is soliciting ideas on how communities can use the recently released <A href="http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=-k-cYYJDVx3VrG6hPPztIQ..">County Health Rankings</A> to mobilize action to improve health outcomes. To do so, the foundation has launched an online forum for public health and community leaders across the country to post ideas on how communities can, using the rankings as a catalyst, start, expand or renew efforts to address the many social, economic, environmental and behavioral factors that affect health. <P><STRONG>Equal Footing Summit to set strategy for a walkable America<BR></STRONG><A href="http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=QWa2vz2ysdaROS2Xw_Eekg.">America Walks</A>, in partnership with the <A href="http://action.apha.org/site/R?i=IfciokGmHIftMHNb56HBmg..">Association for Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals</A>, is conducting the Equal Footing campaign to develop a unified vision and strategy for a walkable America.
