(March 30, 2011) - Today's release of the 2011<SPAN> </SPAN><I><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Calibri,sans-serif">County Health Rankings</SPAN></I>-the second annual set of reports to rank the overall health of counties in all 50 states-by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provides U.S. counties with a useful tool for stimulating health improvement nationwide. The<SPAN> </SPAN><I><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Calibri,sans-serif">Rankings</SPAN></I><SPAN> </SPAN>highlight the need for people and organizations from all sectors of each county-public, private, educational, non-profit, media or philanthropic-to work deliberately and collaboratively to improve the public's health through policies, programs, and services.<BR><BR>"The nation's local health departments are on the front lines of protecting the public's health. Unfortunately, no single agency can address all of the health issues that people in our communities face today," said Robert M. Pestronk, executive director of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). "The<SPAN> </SPAN><I><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Calibri,sans-serif">County Health Rankings</SPAN></I><SPAN> </SPAN>are, and will continue to be, an excellent way for local health departments to engage a wider spectrum of community partners to improve the public's health in their jurisdictions. Counties are also are ranked on key factors that affect health such as: smoking, obesity, binge drinking, access to primary care providers, rates of high school graduation, rates of violent crime, air pollution levels, unemployment rates, number of children living in poverty and access to healthy foods. </SPAN></P>
