<DIV><BR>1.0 FTE - Short-term Project (mid- August 2011 - December 2011)<BR><BR>Position Description:<BR>Upstream Public Health seeks a highly-qualified, full-time, short term<BR>research associate for a rapid, complex research project. Upstream<BR>Public Health seeks to understand how state-level policy changes to<BR>school competitive foods affect social health determinants focused on<BR>children*s health outcomes, school district revenue, and inequities.<BR>This analysis is part of a Health Impact Assessment led by Upstream<BR>Public Health in partnership with The Pew Charitable Trusts. Upstream is<BR>a 501(c)3 non-profit public health advocacy group based in Portland,<BR>Oregon that works to identify the most innovative, broad-based public<BR>health solutions that are backed by science and research. Hours: Full-time from late August 2011to December<BR>2011<BR><BR>Research Responsibilities: <BR>The Research Associate, as a key member of a research team, will be<BR>responsible for 1) working with a statistician to conduct an analysis of<BR>the health and financial impacts of state-wide legislation based on<BR>expert guidelines on HIAs and input from an advisory committee; 2)<BR>contributing to a literature review on health and financial impacts of<BR>competitive food legislation; 3) developing a set of case study<BR>information; 4) synthesizing and authoring the HIA analysis into a final<BR>report; and 5) co-developing policy recommendations. The researcher will<BR>contribute to refining the methodology, research questions and structure<BR>of the project. <BR><BR>Qualifications:<BR>A strong candidate will have a graduate degree in Public Health,<BR>Epidemiology, Health Policy or a related discipline, with two to three<BR>years of research experience employing inferential statistics; PhD or<BR>epidemiologist preferred. A helpful content background includes child<BR>nutrition, food policy, or competitive foods with experience conducting<BR>interviews or case study research. <BR><BR>Skills and Qualities: Experience with a statistic package, Microsoft<BR>Office, and working on collaborative electronic documents required.<BR>Prospective researchers must demonstrate an ability to execute and<BR>complete a collaborative team research project with tight deadlines.
