summer! (It's finally arrived, right?) We thought it'd be a nice idea to
formally introduce the section leadership and make a couple quick updates and
appeals.</span></font>

planning this next year's section activities, which we are excited to

introducing the HPE Section Leadership:</b></font></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family:georgia,serif"><font><br></font></p>
<p style="margin:0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 40px;font-family:georgia,serif"><font><span><b>Your Section Chair is
Alissa Leavitt, MPH, CHES</b></span><span>. Alissa is a faculty member in Health at Portland Community
College (PCC). Her responsibilities include Health Professions program planning
at the Rock Creek campus. Alissa is a graduate of Portland State University
(PSU) with both a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management and a
Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education. She is also a Certified
Health Education Specialist. </span></font></p>
<p style="margin:0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 40px;font-family:georgia,serif"><font><span> </span></font></p>
<p style="margin:0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 40px;font-family:georgia,serif"><font><span>Previously, Alissa was a
Health Educator and Grant Coordinator with the State Oral Health Program where
she assessed, planned, and implemented oral health messaging and best
practices. This included development and coordination of Oregon’s “First Tooth”
program. She has also worked as a Partnership Program Coordinator for the National
Cancer Institute’s Cancer Information Service (CIS). There she worked with
organizations that reach medically underserved populations to help plan,
implement, and evaluate effective and sustainable cancer control strategies.
She has worked as an adjunct professor in the School of Community Health at PSU
and as an online professor for Highland Community College. Before joining the
CIS, Alissa was an Outreach, Education and Evaluation Coordinator for the Child
and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative in the Department of Pediatrics at
Oregon Health & Science University. When she’s not working, Alissa enjoys
riding her bike around Portland with her husband and son and trying out new
restaurants and food carts. </span></font></p>

<p style="margin:0.1pt 0in 0.1pt 40px;font-family:georgia,serif"><font><span><b>Your new Section
Board Representative and Co-Chair is Amanda Lawrence, MPH.</b></span><span> Amanda is the Health
Promotion Coordinator at The Wallace Medical Concern where she is implementing
a three year Health Literacy project, including interventions addressing
diabetes prevention and management, senior health, child health, food security, and asthma
management. Originally a mid-western gal she earned her B.A. from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison and spent the next couple years in Chicago
working on international humanitarian grant programs before making the great
trek out west. Since moving to Portland in 2006, she has graduated from the OMPH program and has worked with The Josiah Hill III
Clinic, Portland State University's Institute on Aging, Upstream Public Health,
Oregon Environmental Council, and Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon. She spent
Fall 2011/Spring 2012 in Chile, volunteering for a women's health education
organization. Amanda is also a graduate of the School of Natural Cookery in
Boulder, CO and loves whole foods natural goodness and sharing cooking tips and
recipes. She is always seeking out opportunities to speak Spanish, has a love/hate relationship with hot power yoga, and is trying
to ride her bike more often. </span><span><br>

</span><span><span> </span></span></font></p>
<p style="font-family:georgia,serif;margin-left:40px" class="MsoNormal"><font><b>Your Section Secretary is Kim Krull</b><span style="font-weight:normal">. Kim has just completed here BS in Community
Health: Health Studies with honors from Portland State University. In addition
to her work with the Health Education and Promotion section, she is completing
her internship with the program manager of OPHA over summer 2012 and will be
assisting with the administrative duties leading into OPHA’s annual conference
in October.<span> </span></span></font></p>
<p style="font-family:georgia,serif;margin-left:40px" class="MsoNormal"><font> </font></p>
<p style="font-family:georgia,serif;margin-left:40px" class="MsoNormal"><font>Kim recently finished internship within the Child &
Adolescent Health Measurement (CAHMI) Initiative at OHSU as well.<span> </span>Although Kim’s knowledge and experience
are still developing, her areas of interest include maternal & child health,
community development, mind-body wellness care, nutrition and access to quality
food.<span> </span>Kim is extremely motivated
in ensuring that public health educators become an important part of Oregon’s
current health reform in order to help address health disparities through the
management and utilization of community resources.<span> </span>In her free time, Kim enjoys hiking and gardening, and
strives to live a productive and healthy life the best she can!<a name="_GoBack"></a><span> </span></font></p>
<p style="font-family:georgia,serif" class="MsoNormal"><font><br></font></p><p style="font-family:georgia,serif" class="MsoNormal"><font><br></font></p><p style="font-family:georgia,serif" class="MsoNormal"><font>As always, we'd love to hear your input. We are here to create
