Recently, SOPHE successfully petitioned ADA to include CHES and MCHES in the ADA Guidelines for Diabetes Self-Management and Treatment. These guidelines are used by health insurers to determine third-party reimbursement for services. </span></span></div>

<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;"><span>In 2013, NCBDE approved SOPHE's request to allow MCHES to be eligible to qualify for the exam to become a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®). Beginning January 1, 2014, professionals with an MCHES credential will be eligible to submit an application to become a CDE®. </span></div>

<div style="font-size: 10pt;"><span><span>·<span> </span></span><span>The National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) has a lengthy history since the mid-1990s of excluding CHES to sit for the CDE exam. SOPHE did an extensive crosswalk showing how the advanced competencies are aligned with their roles/responsibilities of Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE®). With that, SOPHE petitioned to NCBDE to at least allow MCHES to be eligible to sit for the exam. This is a major success and a foot in the door for future opportunities. </span></span></div>
