<br>Develops, plans and evaluates the Women, Infants, and Children program. Provides nutrition intervention for high-risk WIC clients and non-WIC clients, including high-risk counseling, development of an individual care plan, and follow-up for those clients. Provides consultation, counseling and education
to staff, individuals and agencies concerned with proper food selection and nutrition; assists in promoting a nutrition program; does related work as required. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:</th></tr><tr><td style="font-size:13px;border-width:0px 1px;border-style:solid;border-color:rgb(0,0,0);padding:5px">a) Develops, plans and implements programs in nutrition to clients and staff. Assists in preparing and evaluating nutrition education materials to be used and interprets their use. <br>
b) Provides consultation on nutrition to staff. This includes emphasis on the normal nutrition of family members, as well as the nutrition of the expectant and
nursing mother, the newborn, and the toddler. Consults on special nutrition problems of children such as malnutrition, overweight, underweight, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, allergy, anemia, etc. <br>c) Provides direct dietary counseling to individuals and families with special needs. Coordinate WIC program including: <br>
1) Training staff in evaluating food intake and food habits of WIC applicants. <br>2) Evaluating nutritional risk status of WIC applicants utilizing clinical, biochemical, diet and socioeconomic data. <br>3) Assuring prompt, courteous and adequate service for program applicants and participants. <br>
4) Acting as trainer for the WIC program, training staff in explaining the WIC program to participants so that they will be able to utilize the program for maximum benefit. <br>5) Assisting with preparation of materials used for WIC participants in order to help them to understand and utilize this
program. <br>6) Keeping records and writing reports. <br>7) Prepare health education classes for clients. <br>8) Provides breast pumps and related education in WIC setting. <br><br>d) Develops and prepares annual WIC nutrition education plan. <br>
e) Utilizes Windows-based software applications, including Word, Excel, TWIST (State WIC database). <br>f) Provides department representation to public committees and other allied health committees as needed. <br>g) Maintains CPR certification. <br>

</tr><tr><td style="font-size:13px;border-width:0px 1px;border-style:solid;border-color:rgb(0,0,0);padding:5px">SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS: <br>Knowledge of federal and state Women, Infants and Children's supplemental food program rules and regulations for program certification, education and food preparation; knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition for all age groups with an emphasis on maternal, infant and child nutrition; knowledge of the principles of public health nutrition; knowledge of current scientific nutrition principles and practices; knowledge of current counseling techniques for high risk clients. <br>
<br>Ability to conduct nutritional assessment; ability to apply current scientific nutrition principles and practices; ability to counsel individuals and groups; ability to coordinate nutrition services with other public health and community services; ability to interview, problem solve and communicate with clients and staff; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
ability to research, compile and analyze data and make recommendations; ability to interpret regulations, policies and procedures; ability to work independently and organize work priorities; ability to prepare and present effective written and oral material; ability to maintain good working relationships with others. Bilingual preferred. <br>
<br>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES/CERTIFICATES REQUIRED: <br>Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in foods and nutrition; or <br>any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position. One year experience as practicing registered dietitian is preferred. Must be a Registered Dietitian in the state or Oregon. Possession of a valid Oregon driver's license at the time of appointment.<br>
