*JOB SUMMARY*<br>
<br>
*Job Status: Unpaid, 400 hour* *internship; 2 positions during<br>
spring/summer of 2014*<br>

The health education intern will develop evidence-based print and online<br>
education materials, design and implement education programs, and provide<br>
consultative opportunities throughout the Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI)<br>
network.<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
*MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*<br>
<br>
Health education interns assist the Supervisor of Health Education and<br>
Health Education Specialist in coordinating the Integrated Care Services<br>
program at the SCI. The interns are required to work a 400-hour unpaid<br>
internship at the First Hill, Issaquah, Edmonds, and Ballard campuses as<br>
directed by the health education department staff.<br>

<br>
Typical responsibilities will include:<br>
<br>
1. Staffing the SCI’s education centers at various campuses<br>
2. Staffing the SCI’s toll free phone network and patient triaging<br>
program<br>
3. Providing clinical data customized specifically for patients and<br>
their cancer type and stage<br>
4. Educating patients and families on the availability and means of<br>
accessing a variety of SCI integrated care services<br>
5. Developing, reviewing, and editing health education materials<br>
6. Conducting research and writing content for patient newsletters<br>
7. Facilitating patient education classes and support groups<br>
8. Supporting social media and communications efforts to the patient<br>
population<br>
9. Collaborating with SCI departments in order to meet the health<br>
education needs of the patient population, family members, and community<br>
10. Taking on additional projects based on supervisor input and present<br>
business need<br>

*SKILLS & ABILITIES*<br>
The intern should have excellent organization, research, writing and<br>
communication skills. The intern should feel comfortable talking with<br>
patients, family members, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the<br>
community through various communication channels. The intern should be able<br>
to work independently and with groups and be able to collaborate with<br>
others to utilize expertise from multiple sources.<br>

*EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE*<br>
<br>
Senior level undergraduate students with a background in health education<br>
and promotion, such as those majoring in health education, community or<br>
public health, or related fields are eligible to apply.<br>
