Grantees,
The CDC Office on Smoking and Health's media relations team is working on a national anti-tobacco education campaign on the health effects of tobacco and reasons to quit smoking. The goal is to feature real people who have had personal experience with smoking-related diseases, such as heart diseases and asthma, due to smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, and have compelling stories to tell. We need your help finding volunteers for the campaign within a short period of time.
Individuals must meet the following criteria:
· Men and women, age 55 or younger, who have experienced a heart attack due to their own smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke at a young age.
ü African Americans who fit these criteria.
ü Spanish-speaking Hispanics who fit these criteria.
· Parents of a child (18 or younger) with asthma, whose asthma has been exacerbated by secondhand smoke exposure.
ü African Americans who fit these criteria.
ü Spanish-speaking Hispanics who fit these criteria.
All candidates must have quit smoking or using tobacco, and have stayed quit. All candidates will be compensated for their participation; if selected, limited paid travel (two trips) will be necessary.
Please forward your contacts, including names, phone and email info, city and a brief description of their experiences, to me at jonathan.n.modie at state.or.us<mailto:jonathan.n.modie at state.or.us> by noon Monday, Dec. 5. Thank you so much for your help, and sorry about the tight turn-around.
