Hi, coordinators - I am so sorry to say that there is yet another (!) reschedule on this - and yes, I don't blame you if you are getting pretty tired of all the backing and forthing! The latest announcement is pasted below......again, our apologies! Cathryn
Due to scheduling conflicts, today's Heads-Up Call for the forthcoming article in Nicotine & Tobacco Research will be moved to Monday, August, 27th at 11:00 AM, EDT.
The article is entitled "Flavored Cigar Smoking Among U.S. Adults: Findings from the 2009-2010 National Adult Tobacco Survey." An overview of the article will be provided, followed by a brief period for Qs & As. We hope you will be able to join the call.
CALL-IN INFORMATION
Call-in: 1-877-604-1681
Participant passcode: 1576980
Date: Monday, August 27, 2012
Time: 11:00 am - 11:30 am, EDT
CALL NOTES: * 6 PHONE TO MUTE LINE. TO UNMUTE * 6 AGAIN.
To make the call go as smoothly as possible, please keep these helpful tips in mind:
After you are connected as a participant, please be patient while the remaining participants join the call. If you are accidentally disconnected, simply call back and repeat the process.
During the teleconference:
1. NEVER PUT YOUR LINE ON HOLD!! You can either crash the bridge line or inflict hold music on the other participants.
2. If possible, use a speakerphone with the mute function activated. This prevents the disruption of background noise. If you have others with you, muting your phone also allows for discussion within your office without disturbing the rest of the call.
3. During the discussion portion of the call, please keep your remarks concise and to the point. Remember that we have limited time, and all questions, experiences, and perspectives are valuable.
4. Whenever you speak, give your name and affiliation first so that other participants will know who is speaking.
5. If you are connected while the teleconference is in progress, please do not interrupt to announce yourself. The facilitator will ask you to identify yourself at an appropriate time.
6. If you have colleagues participating with you on the call, try to have them in the same room with you. Seat people as close to the phone as possible so that others can easily hear their comments during the discussion.
7. Do not dial in on a cell or cordless phone. Please use a nonmobile phone.

Attention TPEP Coordinators,
This call is back on, and will be held tomorrow/Thursday at 11 AM Pacific. We apologize for the short notice. Please see the attached talking points for more information and ask your liaison if you have questions.
Best,

[cid:image002.jpg at 01CD811B.EE7D1F90]Hi, Coordinators,
We just got word that the article coming out on flavored cigar smoking nationally (see email below) will be released on Monday. Reducing the use of these tobacco products, especially among children and young adults, is a very high priority for all of us.
These products are cheap, readily available and very appealing to youth. Kids like them because the flavorings make the tobacco taste sweet and they are virtually undistinguishable from cigarettes. They are essentially a starter product for youth and young adults. And, they are affordable due to loopholes in the tax structure. The proportion of Oregon kids who smoked cigars, cigarillos, or little cigars during the past 30 days is fairly high (the proportion who smoked cigarettes is included for comparison).
2011 Oregon Healthy Teens Survey
* 11th grade: 9.2% cigars, cigarillos, or little cigars vs. 11.5% cigarettes
* 8th grade: 3.1% cigars, cigarillos, or little cigars vs. 6.6% cigarettes
We would like all county and tribal coordinators to have this information and to think about making some calls to local media outlets when the embargo is lifted on Monday. We will forward the article to you when we receive it. We are thinking that a simple pitch (talk with a reporter) of the talking points is sufficient - no need for a press release or anything more official.
Please let us know if you have any questions - and again, we will forward the actual article as soon as we receive it, thanks, Cathryn and Jonathan
