Annual Tobacco Control Award Nominations

This is the last week to submit your nomination for the state wide
tobacco control awards. Please take time to think of someone who is
deserving of any of the awards below. This is a great time to reflect on
all the amazing accomplishments that have been made since our last
statewide gathering and honor those who have contributed so much to the
health of our community.

Please nominate recipients in any of the four categories (listed below).
Be sure to include a paragraph or two about why you believe your nominee
should receive the award along with the nominee's full name and contact
information. Awards will be presented at the Place Matters conference in
November. Please submit nominations with the attached form by Friday,
September 14th, 2012 via e-mail or mail to:

Joe Weller Guardian Award - This award will honor an individual who has
demonstrated a commitment to mentorship of new tobacco control
advocates.

Outstanding Individual Leadership Award - This award is given to an
individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in Oregon's
tobacco control movement. Nominees have made significant and well
recognized contribution in the areas of leadership, building alliances
and using innovative techniques to advance tobacco control. Individuals
and organizations with less than five years of experience may be
considered for this award.

Outstanding Organization, Business, Coalition or Program - This award
recognizes organizations that have implemented creative, innovative
solutions to Oregon's tobacco challenges. This nominee should have
demonstrated long-term commitment by addressing barriers, policy
concerns, eliminating disparities, and involving the youth of Oregon.

Maurine Neuberger Award for Distinguished Career Achievement - Maurine
Neuberger was a pioneer in the Oregon tobacco control movement long
before it was underway. Maureen pushed for stronger controls on
cigarette advertising and co-authored the 1963 book "Smoke Screen:
Tobacco and Public Welfare". In 1964 she sponsored and successfully
fought for federal legislation requiring cigarette warning labels. This
nominee will be recognized for their long-term leadership and for making
