Each year the Billi Odegaard Public Health Genius Awards seek to honor individuals and groups who have given outstanding and innovative service to improving the health of Oregonians and promoting healthcare equity statewide. Past winners have included both well-known and less recognized individuals, including:


*         Dr. Tina Castañares, founder of La Clinica del Cariño Family Health Center, helping to create one of the first "promatores de salud" in the country; advocate for communities of color, strengthening social and economic determinants.

*         Village Gardens, an organization focused on providing healthy food and promoting equity in their community.

*         Ben Duncan of OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon and Multnomah County

*         Oregon Speaker of the House Tina Kotek

*         And many more...
This is a great opportunity to recognize and honor a tribal health leader or group in your community. Please consider nominating the next Emerging Leader or Exceptional Group Achievement to be honored with a Public Health Genius Award. I'm attaching more information about the nomination criteria. The deadline is September 6, 2013.  If you know anyone else who may have a nominee in mind, please feel free to forward this message.
