Good Afternoon Local Partners,
I want to provide a brief update regarding emails you may have received related to private entities seeking public employees to serve as inspectors for the FDA's Tobacco Control Act.
Currently, no entity (private or public) has a contract with the FDA to carry out the compliance inspections for the Tobacco Control Act in Oregon. The state continues to work very closely with the FDA to obtain the contract within a state agency and assure people in Oregon benefit from the protections of this law.
The FDA recently released an RFP for private entities to propose a plan for compliance checks in states that do not currently have a contract with the FDA. As a result, you may receive inquiries from miscellaneous private entities seeking to enlist people in signing on to do the compliance checks. What is important to remember, is that no entity (private or public) has been identified yet to do this work.
We will continue to keep you apprised of efforts in Oregon related to the FDA. Please feel free to connect with your liaison if you have additional questions. Thanks! Kirsten
