Hello Grantees,

The communications team has been working on a suite of communications products to support our strategic policy goals. These products are designed for policy makers, partners and others who need clear and concise information about comprehensive prevention programming, including methods, approaches, and achievements.

For tobacco prevention and education, the 2013-2015 Legislative Report is now available, and there are a number of products that work with the report or as stand-alone products. A description of the products and the link to each are below for your reference and review. We will be sending out links to more products soon as they come online. If you have any questions or feedback about how you would like to use the products, please contact your liaison and/or state communications team ( Holly at Holly.Heiberg at state.or.us<mailto:Heiberg at state.or.us> and Kati at Katarina.Moseley at state.or.us).

Tobacco Prevention and Education: Expanding our Reach for a Healthier Oregon (2013-2015)
More than 85 percent of funding for Oregon's Tobacco Education and Prevention Program (TPEP) flows directly into communities working to reduce tobacco-related illness and death across the state. Since TPEP launched in 1997, these locally-driven efforts have helped reduce tobacco consumption and youth smoking in Oregon by more than 50 percent - saving lives and saving money.

TMSA Factsheets
The majority of Tobacco Prevention and Education Program (TPEP) funding comes from state taxes on tobacco products. However, in 2013, the Legislature for the first time directed a portion of funds from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (TMSA) to support tobacco prevention efforts. This $4 million commitment funded:

  * Community interventions to reduce tobacco use and encourage adults to quit
  *   Health education and communications
  * Data collection and program evaluation
  * Training for public health, health care and community partners
  * Technical assistance to support community health
  * The Oregon Tobacco Quit Line, available 24/7 by phone and online
These two fact sheets describe some of the concrete outcomes achieved by Oregon's investment of TMSA money into tobacco prevention and education programming:

Finishline case studies
These four case studies describe how local tobacco prevention and education programs protect Oregonians from the influence of tobacco, and make sure that every Oregonian has a chance to thrive. Local Programs accomplish this by working together, collaborating across sectors, and sharing local data and best practices to reach the common goal of healthy communities. And by promoting health and wellness through policy decisions and systems changes that support healthy options for all community members.
