Dear Partners,
There are two CDC Networking Calls for State and Local Public Health coming up on February 25. They are at the same time and might be tough choice, since both sound highly relevant to the work we are all doing at the state and local level. Please see below for more information and speak with your liaison if you would like to confer about how this information informs your current work plan.

Colorado - Built Environment Policy and Partnerships to Promote Active Living, presented by Cate Townley, Built Environment Specialist, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Branch , Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Nearly one of three Coloradans doesn't have easy access to safe sidewalks, parks or community recreation centers. The state health department is working to increase opportunities for Coloradans to walk, bike and recreate in their neighborhoods. Through partnerships and collaborations Colorado communities are changing policies to promote active living for all residents. Presentation will include a statewide active living policy scan and local, regional and state collaborations to promote active living.
California - Rolling out Employee Bike-Sharing Programs in Government Settings, presented by Jeff Rosenthal, Chief Policy and Partnership Development Unit, Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch, California Dept. of Public Health.
While bike-sharing continues to grow in large metropolitan areas across the nation, less is known about such programs originating and designed specifically for employees. Ahead of the City of Sacramento's own large-scale bike-sharing effort, a small group of dedicated state staff set about planning, implementing, and growing the concept of bicycles available during the day for employees to attend business meetings, run errands, or purely just get some extra exercise in their day. Launched in May 2014, the California Department of Public Health's Employee BikeShare has captured the interest of the campus' roughly 4,000 employees and participation has steadily grown. We will delve into the nuts-and-bolts as well as challenges of launching such a system on this networking call. The purpose of this presentation is discuss: The background and success of California's Employee BikeShare Pilot Program, key considerations when launching employee programs, and public-private partnerships and the role of technology in bike-sharing.
