The Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division’s (OHA-PHD) role in marijuana legalization is to protect the public’s health; regulate medical marijuana and dispensaries; and accredit laboratories. During the 2016 regular session, the Oregon legislature passed HB 4014 and SB 1597 providing the OHA-PHD with money to develop, pilot and evaluate a youth marijuana use prevention social media campaign.

To protect the public’s health, OHA-PHD seeks to
• Educate the public about the health issues related to marijuana use;
• Prevent youth marijuana use; and
• Monitor marijuana use, attitudes, and health effects.

Towards the first two goals, and in fulfillment of the expectations of HB 4014, OHA-PHD is designing and will implement a social media campaign with youth aged 12 to 20 years as the primary audience.

Campaign Goal: OHA-PHD seeks to prevent or delay the initiation of marijuana use among Oregon’s 12-20 year old population.

During this webinar, the Oregon Health Authority’s Public Health Division’s Senior Research Analyst and Health Promotion Strategist will present current data on youth marijuana use, review results of recent youth and young adults focus groups hosted throughout Oregon, provide an overview of a youth marijuana prevention campaign that will be piloted in in the Portland/Metro area as well as Jackson and Josephine Counties.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
