This webinar, co-hosted by the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors and Alliance for a Healthier Generation (the Alliance), highlights the importance of building local school wellness policies that can lead to promising, sustainable changes in practice for school nutrition and physical activity. It will describe how state agencies, particularly state health departments, can capitalize on opportunities offered by the final regulations of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and play a role in providing professional development and technical assistance to school districts and schools. Panelists will provide insight into developing partnerships at state and local levels to support wellness and inclusion of a Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) approach. This includes innovative strategies in adopting, implementing, monitoring and evaluating strengthened school wellness policies. In addition, the webinar will highlight how the Alliance is helping to build capacity within select states, along with examples, resources and tools for state health departments and partner agencies to consider as they advance the reach and impact of school wellness policies.

Speakers:
Shannon Vogler, BS CHE, MBA, Healthy Schools and Communities National Advisor, Alliance for a Healthier Generation
Jennifer Woolard, BS, School Chronic Disease Prevention Specialist, Vermont Department of Health
Heather Blume, MS, RD, LD, Coordinator, Child Nutrition Programs, Idaho State Department of Education

Learning Objectives:
* List at least two new state and/or local organizations to explore for partnerships that can help to build stronger school wellness policies and expand reach and impact.
* Explain at least two ways states have strengthened the implementation and oversight of school wellness policies once adopted/revised by school districts.
* Identify at least two actions you can take that apply strategies and resources from the webinar to improve local school wellness policies.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
