Dear Partners,

Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is currently formulating the Oregon Public Transportation Plan - 2045, and HEALTH is one of seven goals. Representatives from Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division, Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention have been a part of the Policy Advisory Committee and have thus far provided input on strategies and policies that can strengthen public transportation's role in supporting optimal health.

I am sharing information today about how you can comment and otherwise participate in this process of creating the plan. It is important to include health partners at the table, as public transportation may relate to work you are doing, whether that is increasing access to health care and health management programs via public transit; improving air quality; promoting aging in place initiatives; or increasing physical activity through walking and biking - including walking and biking to and from transit.

The vision for the plan is:

"In 2045, public transportation is an integral, interconnected component of Oregon's transportation system that makes Oregon's diverse cities, towns, and communities work. Because public transportation is convenient, affordable, and efficient, it helps further the state's quality of life and economic vitality and contributes to the health and safety of all residents, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions."
