Please see the information below on a funding opportunity to work on supporting cities to adopt healthy policies, such as policies allowing land uses for community gardens, policies restricting the retail environment, or policies dedicating a portion of transportation funding to bicycle and pedestrian improvements. These are only examples. Please see the HEAL Cities information below and find more online.
2017 HEAL Small Grants are now available for HEAL Cities
The HEAL Cities Small Grant funding is designed to assist cities in implementing HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Living) policies with a focus on addressing health inequities. All cities that join the HEAL Cities Campaign by July 3 are eligible to apply. Applications are due by July 18, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Grantees will be announced the week of August 14. OPHI will disburse a grant pool of $35,000 in amounts between $5,000 and $15,000 to up to six (6) cities to implement HEAL policies.
The HEAL Small Grants Program is part of the HEAL Cities Campaign that helps civic leaders develop and sustain healthy communities by encouraging cities to adopt policies that over time will expand the options for city residents, visitors, and employees to have healthier food options in their community and/or be more physically active (HEAL policies). The Campaign is managed by the Oregon Public Health Institute (OPHI) through a partnership with the League of Oregon Cities (LOC).
The Campaign offers many tools to assist cities throughout Oregon to adopt and implement HEAL policies and programs.
