The Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention (HPCDP) Section of the Public Health Division is pleased to share preliminary data on chronic diseases, risk factors, protective factors and substance use in Oregon by race and ethnicity.

This data comes from three years of annual Oregon Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System (BRFSS; 2015-2017) data and is supplemented by a race oversample survey that was conducted in 2015-2016. Data from these surveys were combined and analyzed to produce the results in the attached PDF. Please note, because these are preliminary data and may be subject to change, we ask that you do not widely distribute these tables. Please use these preliminary tables for internal planning and communications only.

The reason we are providing preliminary data is that while conducting quality assurance activities, the Public Health Division (PHD) identified a discrepancy in the method used between the annual data files and the race oversample data file to identify survey respondents to be included in the final dataset. PHD is currently working to reconcile this discrepancy and apply a single method across files. Doing so may slightly change some of the estimates in the attached tables. HPCDP does not have an estimated time when it will receive the updated dataset from PHD, which we will then have to reanalyze. However, we want to get you these data sooner than later and do not anticipate estimates will change very much since sample sizes across races will not change greatly. We will publicly post the final tables and update our partners when corrections are made.
