On behalf of CDC's Division of Population Health, I'm pleased to announce the release of the Healthy Brain Initiative's Road Map for Indian Country<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.cdc.gov_aging_healthybrain_pdf_HBI-2DRoad-2DMap-2Dfor-2DIndian-2DCountry-2D508.pdf&d=DwMFAg&c=7gilq_oJKU2hnacFUWFTuYqjMQ111TRstgx6WoATdXo&r=qbhJt-cbOoeMXp7vToGxzCmPpSlTf9ij_dQpPqwET4-UJ_JSGMH9SzUYK7t6TWoi&m=z66MSbbv_9s2WFR5oJHQ-M98b79A4okOUv7h8JU_JMw&s=Sk-RojCaNSAXa9Te_sFrEzbI_fFrNXkqaP2MxBEBkrc&e=>. This document is the first-ever public health guide focused on dementia in American Indian/Alaska Native communities. As tribal leaders deal with an aging population and the growing problem of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, they can use this Road Map to build on the strengths of their traditional practices and culture to engage their communities in addressing these important health issues.
The Road Map is designed specifically to support discussion about dementia and caregiving within tribal communities and to encourage a public health approach-as part of a larger holistic response. It also includes public health strategies to enhance wellness for older adults affected by dementia, support family care, and promote brain health across generations.
CDC and the Alzheimer's Association, in consultation with the International Association for Indigenous Aging, sought specific input, feedback, guidance, and direction from experts and elders throughout Indian Country to develop this helpful resource.
The Road Map for Indian Country is a companion product to the Healthy Brain Initiative's State and Local Public Health Partnership to Address Dementia: The 2018-2023 Road Map<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.cdc.gov_aging_pdf_2018-2D2023-2DRoad-2DMap-2D508.pdf&d=DwMFAg&c=7gilq_oJKU2hnacFUWFTuYqjMQ111TRstgx6WoATdXo&r=qbhJt-cbOoeMXp7vToGxzCmPpSlTf9ij_dQpPqwET4-UJ_JSGMH9SzUYK7t6TWoi&m=z66MSbbv_9s2WFR5oJHQ-M98b79A4okOUv7h8JU_JMw&s=F3ljI_vzblvdxLWUXDtdyKExvHic-o6kemIiufSKlJs&e=>.
