Dear Tribal TPEP Programs,
Happy Friday!
We heard from several of you that you appreciate the new bi-weekly "HPCDP Digest" as a streamlined way to share updates and resources to the listservs. Please see updates below and continue to share community updates, resources and information that we can share out in the next Digest. Please keep the feedback coming about what might be helpful to your work.
1. Shout outs!
* The city of Roseburg (Douglas County), with the help of the Blue Zones Project, the Douglas County Public Health Network and many others, passed a smokefree downtown outdoor events policy, September 28, 2020. The effort had broad community support and brought a variety of voices to pass the policy. Congratulations Roseburg for taking steps to protect the health of your community. Contact Christin Rutledge with questions at christin at DouglasPublicHealthNetwork.org<mailto:christin at DouglasPublicHealthNetwork.org>
* Clatsop County Commissioners honor 10 years of community-driven public health! The Community Health Advocacy and Resource Team (CHART) was founded a decade ago to support community members as they push for the best possible health in Clatsop County. Their partnership over the years has streamlined information and resource sharing and built strong collaborative relationships. Recent successes include the passage of a tobacco retailer license countywide. On September 23rd, the Clatsop Board of Commissioners honored the group for their many contributions. See the brief 10-minute presentation<https://youtu.be/FoGSt8VTBGE> as one example of how to celebrate collaboration! Check minutes 1:45-11:45 of the Commission meeting for Julia Hesse, Jill Quackenbush, CHART members, and thankful local leaders. Contact Julia Hesse with questions at jhesse at co.clatsop.or.us<mailto:jhesse at co.clatsop.or.us>
* Malheur County Prevention sponsored a Hands Around the Park for Recovery chalk art event (see attached). Participants included faith based and other youth groups, families, community partner businesses, and so many more! There have been over a hundred messages on the sidewalks of Malheur County - all the way from Ontario to Jordan Valley and in between. The Drug Free Coalition also participated in a sign rally using signs from the "Don't Give Up" program - over 12,000 cars passed by the sign rallies. 1. Tool for Social Media Posts and Success Stories - the Bite-Size Story Template. Are you looking to craft the perfect social media post, or write a brief and compelling program success story? This is the tool for you (see attached)! First created by the Met Group as part of the Tobacco Retail Assessment Report rollout, we created a more general version to use for program success stories. It's also a helpful "formula" for a social media post. Use the tool to draft your own social media posts or stories about local program successes.
