TPEP Updates:
Multnomah County’s Youth and Young Adult Art Contest
Multnomah County Public Health, in partnership with the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, has launched a youth art contest.  The theme is "How Flavored Tobacco Affects My Community." The contest will feature a total of $4,000 in prizes, awarded in categories for both youth (12-18) and young adults (19-25).  Help spread the word out today. This contest will only be open until January 7, 2022, so please act now.

Join the CPS Training Cohort

The goal is to have the cohort training begin in the fall of 2022. Participants do not have to be dues-paying members of the OPHA Addiction Prevention Section – this training is offered to anyone who wants it. Some training will be offered remotely, regardless of the status of the pandemic, and some training will be offered only in person. Pricing structure and calendar of training to come.

Big News: Ashley Thirstrup is on to a new adventure
Ashley Thirstrup, Manager of Community Policy, Systems of Environmental Change, will be transitioning out of HPCDP on 12/30 to a new adventure as the Director of Health in Education in the OHA Director’s Office. Ashley will continue to advance prevention strategies through this 18-month job rotation. In her new role, she will be fostering cross agency partnerships with the Oregon Department of Education to support implementation of the Oregon Student Success Act and Healthier Together Oregon, with a focus on students and families who have been historically underserved in Oregon’s education system. Her email and phone will remain the same, and she hopes to stay connected with all of you working in community prevention!

The System of Care Plan for Oregon – Two Year Strategic Plan 2022/2023 pulls together a vision of a future where young people from all backgrounds are healthy, safe, learning and thriving at home and in their communities and pushes us all to transform the way the system works to better address the needs of our youth and families who are interacting with multiple systems and have complex needs. SAMHSA is offering these grants to support community-based overdose prevention programs, syringe services programs, and other harm reduction services. Twenty-five awards of up to $400,000 per award per year, over a three-year period, will be granted. Applications are due by Monday, February 7, 2022.

Grants of up to $20,000 annually are being offered to community colleges and minority-serving institutions to advocate for, adopt, and implement a 100 percent tobacco/vape-free policy. Colleges that have smoke or tobacco-free policies that do not include e-cigarettes may still apply. To combat the vaping epidemic, Truth Initiative is offering grants up to $10,000 to minority-serving institutions and community colleges to strengthen their 100 percent smoke or tobacco-free policies by adding e-cigarettes.  The deadline to apply is Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. ET.

This funding opportunity is intended for American Indian and Alaska Native youth, 13-21 years old, with an adult mentor to support community service projects. Awards are up to $475.
