Thanks to Dr. Erika Moseson, a leading Oregon lung doctor who regularly records a respiratory health podcast. The early February episode features Deschutes County health leader Karen Ard, and a local youth leader Gabriella Shirtcliff. Check out the local perspective on the youth vaping crisis. Many thanks to those who developed this excellent conversation. * CDC Call to Action - Federal Register: Treatment of E-Cigarettes in the Mail. The US Postal Service is soliciting comments until March 22, 2021, on its plans to update its guidelines to prohibit sending e-cigarettes through the U.S. mail. These new restrictions stem from the recent change in federal law, which require USPS to take this action. Existing regulations prohibit shipping of combustible cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, but not e-cigarettes. Information about USPS' plans and how to comment can be found here: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/02/19/2021-03393/treatment-of-e-cigarettes-in-the-mail Contact Sarah Wylie with questions at sarah.a.wylie at state.or.us<mailto:sarah.a.wylie at state.or.us>
* Resource: 2021 Racial Equity in Public Policy Message Guide. Check out the new Voices for Healthy Kids 2021 Racial Equity in Public Policy Message Guide. The guide walks through key messages and tips for advocates to use with decision-makers to advance the conversation on racial equity, link racial inequity and structural racism to policy, and garner support for specific racial equity language in policy. It uses sugary drink taxes as an example but can be adapted for countless policy issues. The guide also has an interactive guide and resource toolkit. The guide is available here: https://voicesforhealthykids.org/RacialEquityGuide Contact Ashley Thirstrup with questions at ashley.thirstrup at state.or.us<mailto:ashley.thirstrup at state.or.us>
