Good morning –

Here in the Oregon Public Health Division – Health Promotion & Chronic Disease Prevention Section, we have been working with the Transportation and Growth Management Program (TGM), a joint program of Oregon Department of Transportation
and Department of Land Conservation and Development. Some of you may have heard a TGM representative speak at the 2014 Place Matters conference, or attended the workshops led by James Sallis that we jointly sponsored last fall in several communities around
the state.

TGM has been very receptive to weaving in public health to their work, including their grant program, which funds jurisdictions for planning activities such as updating comprehensive plans or transportation system plans. TGM released its
2015 RFP emphasizing their interest in receiving “innovative” proposals, including specifically calling out those that engaged public health (i.e., by using health assessment or disease burden data, engaging us as stakeholders, using PH evidence, aligning
with health improvement plans).

Attached is the list of pre-applications that have come in to TGM. I encourage you to look at the list and if there is a jurisdiction of interest to you, consider reaching out to them to learn more and see whether there is a role for public
health in their project plan. I’m pleased to report that there are at least 3 on the list that I know of that do engage public health!

Full applications are due in June so there is time to help shape the proposal, and in fact, TGM representatives indicate to me that they will still accept more pre-applications, if a jurisdiction is interested.

Please be in touch if you have any questions. Thanks,
