<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="color:black">The Oregon Department of Education is conducting a second round of community forums across the state to gather input on
<i>Oregon’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) state plan</i> that will be submitted this spring.  ESSA is the name given to the 2015 renewal of the
<i>Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)</i>.  This Act is the main federal law that controls how the U.S. Department of Education (ED) disperses the federal education funding that states receive.  The last time ESEA was renewed, in 2001, it was known
 as <i>No Child Left Behind</i>.  ESSA acknowledges the need for schools to educate the whole child and ensure equitable access to quality education and the conditions that support  student learning and staff engagement. Development of the state ESSA plan provides
 an important opportunity to integrate health and wellness indicators into education planning and practice.

<i>Spring 2017 OEA Choice Trust School Employee Wellness Grant Opportunity</i>.  This grant program offers funds to Oregon public school districts, community colleges and Education Service Districts to promote and support the health and wellbeing of school
