<i><span style="color:#0563C1">Current Cigarette Smoking Among Adults – United States, 2016</span></i></a>. The article presents data from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), illustrating the current rate of cigarette smoking among adults in the United
States at 15.5 percent. Prevalence rates were higher among males, those aged 25 to 64, those who are American Indian/Alaska Native or multiracial, those with only a GED, those living below the federal poverty level, those living in the South or Midwest, those
who are uninsured or have Medicaid, those with a disability, those who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual, and those with serious psychological distress.</span><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#111111"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:8.0pt;margin-left:0in">
<span style="color:#111111">Researchers note a significant increase in quit rates from 2005 to 2016, with the percentage of ever smokers who quit smoking increased from 50.8 to 59 percent. Furthermore, the smoking prevalence rate significantly decreased from
20.9 percent in 2005 to 15.5 percent in 2016. The researchers did note that there was not a significant change in smoking prevalence rate from 15.1 percent in 2015 to 15.5 percent in 2016. Additional trends for current cigarette smoking prevalence among

<i><span style="color:#0563C1">Tobacco Product Use Among Military veterans – United States, 2010-2015</span></i></a>. In 2015, approximately 18.8 million adults in the United States were military veterans. To determine estimates of tobacco use rates, the
CDC analyzed self-reported past 30-day use of different types of tobacco products – including cigarettes, cigars/cigarillos/little cigars, roll-your-own tobacco, pipes, and smokeless tobacco. The researchers used data from the National Survey on Drug Use
and Health (NSDUH) to make projections around current rates – overall 29.2 percent of veterans reported past 30-day use of any of the tobacco products. veterans most commonly reported using cigarettes (21.6 percent) while the fewest (1.5 percent) reported
using pipes. Additionally, seven percent of veterans reported using two or more tobacco products.

for veterans and 62.1 percent for non-veterans), and males aged 50 or older (72.4 percent for veterans and 61.1 percent for non-veterans). Additionally, researchers found statistically significant differences in rates of current use of noncigarette tobacco
