<span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:105%">Number of total assessments completed: Over 1,600 assessments are complete out of nearly 2,000! As a reminder all assessments need to be complete by
<b>November 9</b> so HPCDP can start data analysis and provide county-level data and communications materials.

<span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:105%">Nearly all counties have finished data collection. Still wrapping up are Lane, Deschutes, Jefferson, Clatsop, Grant, Multnomah, Harney, Wallowa, Tillamook, and Morrow Counties. Best of luck to wrapping up your
assessments – several of these counties have long retailer lists – and thank you to ADPEP programs in several counties who are stepping up to help make sure all assessments are complete.<o:p></o:p></span></li></ul>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:14.0pt">Anecdote of the month: </span>
</b><span style="font-size:14.0pt">We received the following story from Multnomah County about their assessments. This anecdote is a good example of how alcohol availability intersects with social norms around drinking. It’s also an example of how the alcohol

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:.5in"><b><i><span style="font-size:14.0pt">Bars in Grocery Stores:
</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:14.0pt">In Multnomah County, we have seen two (to date) grocery store with bars located within them (serving beer and wine, no hard liquor). The two locations are within the same upscale neighborhood in downtown Portland.
See pictures below for examples. At the first store (Fred Meyer), the survey was conducted at approximately 2pm, and had several patrons in the bar area. The person working at the bar appeared to be a Fred Meyer employee, as they were not wearing any form
of uniform that would otherwise indicate that their employer was different than Fred Meyer (as in the case of Starbucks employees). The second location (Safeway), was assessed earlier in the day (~10:30), and the bar was not open (hours were not posted). This
bar, however appeared much larger and had multiple seating locations. What made this location more interesting, was the advertising around the store that encouraged patrons to purchase something from the store to drink onsite (see photos). Both of these examples
highlight the culture around drinking as a social norm in this community. <o:p></o:p></span></i></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-size:14.0pt">The tobacco and alcohol retail assessment gathers statewide point-of-sale data at tobacco and alcohol retailers. The widespread availability of tobacco and alcohol products and the visibility of tobacco,
alcohol and sugary drink marketing at point-of-sale remain a significant public health concern, particularly in low socio-economic communities or neighborhoods with higher density of communities of color.<o:p></o:p></span></i></p>
