<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">This week, OHA released a statement on the US Surgeon General’s advisory declaring youth e-cigarette use an epidemic. OHA deeply regrets the omission of tribes in that statement.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">The tribal Tobacco Prevention and Education Programs, in all nine tribes, have been active, statewide leaders in commercial tobacco prevention for over 20 years. OHA knows that tribal tobacco, alcohol and
other drug prevention programs are instrumental in preventing tobacco use among youth and adults in our state.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">OHA is honored to work alongside tribes to prevent tobacco use initiation and to combat industry practices by commercial tobacco companies to target Native Americans.

<p><span style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Tobacco use is still the No. 1 leading cause of death and disease in Oregon. Youth use of e-cigarette products nearly tripled in Oregon from 5 percent in 2013 to 13 percent in 2017. These products
are sweet, cheap and easy to get and they introduce a new generation of youth to nicotine addiction. Oregon’s
