BAKER CITY TO HOST PIONEERING WEEKEND

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, operated by the
Bureau of Land Management five miles east of Baker City, will host
several pioneer-themed activities this week.

A wagon encampment event Aug. 30-Sept. 1 will recreate a pioneer
"nooning" stop on the Oregon Trail. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday-Monday,
costumed interpreters will provide Dutch oven cooking demonstrations by
using historic recipes and ingredients available to overland pioneers. A
team of oxens and musicians will also perform.

The Trail Tenders will host beginning at 1 p.m. Aug. 29 a workshop on
the basic techniques of a rag rug at the center. The workshop comes just
before the conclusion Sept. 1 at the center of the exhibit "Riches to
Rags: Clothing on the Oregon Trail."

ALBANY TO HIGHLIGHT THUNDERBIRD CAR DESIGNER

The Albany Regional Museum will have the Rhys Miller Thunderbird
Classic car show and exhibit at the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept.
6.  This event is in recognition of Rhys Miller (1914-2008) who attended
school in Albany in the 1920s, and later became a legendary automotive
designer, including the 1957 Ford Thunderbird facelift.  

A variety of Ford Thunderbirds will be on view at the museum parking
lot and a special exhibit on the life of Rhys Miller will be inside the
museum.  This event coincides with Albany's Antiques in the Street.  The

TASK FORCE TO CONTINUE DISCUSSIONS AUG. 29

Oregon*s Task Force on Historic Property will meet by teleconference
from 9 * 11 a.m. Aug. 29.  The members will continue discussion on the
draft Report to the Legislature that was begun at their teleconference
on Aug. 22. 

The teleconference will be held at the Oregon Parks and Recreation
Department headquarters office in the North Mall Office Building at 725
Summer St. NE, Salem.  Public visitors are required to check in at the
department*s first-floor reception desk. The meeting site is
accessible to people with disabilities.


ORAL HISTORY GROUP SEEKS COMMENTS ON ETHICS

The Oral History Association is revising its statement of ethical
principles and practice for oral history, which it calls its evaluation
guidelines.  As part of this
process it is soliciting input from people who conduct and use oral
histories, whether they be students, professors, independent scholars,
public history professionals, or people in related fields such as
anthropology and folklore.  The existing guidelines are on line at
http://alpha.dickinson.edu/oha/pub_eg.html (they are on the Oral
History Association webpage under publications, "pamphlets").

Suggestions for material to add or subtract, issues to address, and
ways to reorganize are requested.  Comments can be directed to revision
committee chair Tracy K'Meyer, at tracyk at louisville.edu.
