STORM'S ANNIVERSARY TO BE NOTED IN ASTORIA

High wind watch, flood warning, small craft advisory. Weather is always
a topic of conversation in the Pacific Northwest, especially when there
is a storm in the forecast. On Dec. 6, the Columbia River Maritime
Museum observes the first anniversary of the Great Coastal Gale of 2007
with an all day event entitled "Weathering the Storm." Admission is free
with a donation of canned food for the Clatsop Community Action Regional
Food Bank.     

Presentations include guest speakers discussing the December storm*s
impact on the region by the National Weather Service, a Coast Guard
rescue swimmer*s experiences assisting with evacuation in Chehalis,
Wash.,and Pacific Power showing photographs of the devastation. Family
programs will also be offered. The museum*s field educator, Nate
Sandel, who created the illustrations for the museum*s newly published
"Ships of the Mighty Columbia River: A Maritime Coloring Book," will
attend.

FARMSTEAD'S HISTORY TO BE FEATURED IN OREGON CITY

The Clackamas County Historical Society will offer a presentation on
the Andrew J. & Anna B. Johnston Farmstead by Shirley Wilson. The
presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Museum of the Oregon
Territory, 211 Tumwater Dr., Oregon City.

Wilson will discuss the historical significance of this National
Registry property in Oregon City. The Johnston Farmstead is a Queen Anne
style house built in the late 1800s and noted for its architectural and
engineering features.

LEBANON CEMETERY BOOK UPDATED

A new edition of the Lebanon Pioneer Cemetery book has been published. 
The book tells who is buried at the historic cemetery at Park and Dodge
streets, and includes obituaries and other information.  It was written
by Pat Dunn and Jeanne Gentry Robinson.  To reserve a book, call Shannon

HISTORIC PROPERTIES OPEN FOR DECEMBER TOURS

December open houses for properties in the National Register of
Historic Places are scheduled in Albany, Ashland, Astoria, Baker City,
Bend, Brownsville, Central Point, Coburg, Condon, Coos Bay, Coquille,
Corvallis, Cottage Gorve, Dayton, Eugene, Gardiner, Grants Pass,
Hillsboro, Hood River, La Grande, Medford, Mill City, Molalla, Monroe,
Oakland, Portland, Roseburg, Salem, Shedd, Springfield, St. Helens, The
Dalles, Toledo, Union, Vale, and West Linn.

The month*s schedule features the Court-Street/Chemeketa Street
Historic District in Salem, a prior funeral home in Roseburg, a prior
junior high school converted to condos in Eugene, sawmill tenant houses
in Toledo, a farmstead in Brownsville, a restored 1939 gas station in
Portland, and the Hot Lake Hotel in Union, which are among the 223 homes
and buildings extending the public invitation.  
 
In return for the special assessment benefit, a property owner must
invite the public to an open house at least one day, per year, for a
minimum of four consecutive hours between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

UMATILLA COUNTY SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Umatilla County Historical Society in Pendleton seeks an
experienced executive director with strong leadership, financial,
marketing, development and communication skills to provide direction for
the activities of Heritage Station Museum and the Community Bargain
Counter.  The executive director manages two employees, oversees a
budget of $320,000, works with the Board of Directors and board
committees, and carries out the policies and programs of the Society.

To be considered, submit letter of intent, resume with three references
including names and addresses, one of which includes the current
employer.  Finalists will be asked to attend an interview before the
