BIRTHDAY BASH TO INCLUDE 1859 MUSIC

Oregon's 150th Birthday Ball will be a mixture of the past and present.
Organized by the Oregon National Guard Association, the Feb. 14 event
will include the 234th Oregon National Guard Army Band playing
contemporary music on the first floor of the Salem Conference Center. At
the same time the first floor will have 1859
music played by a re-enactor group portraying 3rd Division, Oregon
Volunteers in period correct 1859 uniforms, playing 1859 instruments,
and there will be
1859 dancing.  The first floor will also have displays from historical
societies from Oregon telling some of Oregon's stories.  1859  costumes
are
encouraged.

The event begins at 6 p.m., with dancing scheduled to start at 7:30

HORSEPOWER INCLUDED IN ALBANY, JACKSONVILLE EVENTS

Albany: The 29th annual old-fashioned holiday celebration in Historic
Albany will take place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 14. This year's tour
will feature six historic homes which have been restored and decorated
for the holidays, as well as a loft apartment in a downtown commercial
building and a newly constructed *Salt Box* style home in North
Albany . Along with the homes on tour, you may visit the Whitespires
Church, The United Presbyterian Church, the Albany Regional Museum, the
Monteith House Museum, the Carnegie Library, the Carousel Art Studio and
Dentzel American Carousel Museum.

The Monteith House Museum will be lit by oil lamp and fire light and a
fire will be lit in the Carnegie Library fireplace. Marks Ridge
Percherons will carry passengers through the Historic Monteith District.
Tickets are available near the Albany Visitors Association office at the
Two Rivers Market located at 300 SW 2nd Ave. The event is organized by
the Historical Interior Tour Committee. For more information, contact

Jacksonville: The Southern Oregon Draft and Harness Association will
provide wagon rides during a Hanley Farm Happenings from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Dec. 13. Other activities are also planned by the Southern Oregon
Historical Society. The Hanley Farm, which is operated by SOHS, is
located at 1053 Hanley Road, on Highway 238 between Jacksonville and

TASK FORCE PLANS DEC. 12 MEETING

Oregon*s Task Force on Historic Property will meet by teleconference
beginning at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12.  The members will discuss the Special
Assessment draft re-authorization bill.   
 
The teleconference listening location will be at Oregon Parks and
Recreation Department headquarters in the North Mall Office Building,
725 Summer St. NE, in Salem.  Public visitors are required to check in
at the department*s first-floor reception desk.
 
The meeting site is accessible to people with disabilities. Special
accommodations may be arranged up to 72 hours in advance by calling

IRS PROVIDES SITE FOR NONPROFIT INFO

The Internal Revenue Service has developed a website for nonprofits
where it provides links to many of its publications. The website is
