LANE MUSEUM TO HOST SEVERAL EVENTS THIS MONTH

The Lane County Historical Museum will feature during October two
programs related to its current “Tie Dye and Tofu” exhibit and two
film showings touching its more traditional theme of the Oregon Trail.
All programs are free and open to the public.

Larry Weinerman of the White Bird Clinic will speak at 6 p.m. Oct. 14
on  “The Drug Scene Then and Now.” Illegal drug use was a
significant part of the counterculture movement of the 1960s and 1970s.
White Bird clinic is a product of those times and continues to minister
to people experiencing drug-related problems. At 6 p.m. Oct. 21, Suzi
Prozanski will narrate a panel "Looking Back at Counterculture."
Panelists who lived the times will discuss the impact of the early
counterculture on our community. Topics include war protests, the
natural food movement, communal life and the Oregon Country Fair.

At 4:30 p.m. Oct 23 and 2 p.m. Oct. 24, the museum will show “In
Pursuit of a Dream,” an Oregon-California Trails Association
production. It features 24 children (ages 10-17) and three teachers in
2008 traveling the Oregon Trail in historic style (filmed in Wyoming and
Oregon). The film received an Oregon Heritage Excellence Award this
year.

The Lane County Historical Society and Museum is located at 740 West
13th Ave., Eugene, next to the Lane County Fairgrounds (Events Center).


BASKETMAKING SESSION SET FOR JACKSON COUNTY

Pat Stancel will teach at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 how native Southern Oregonians
made baskets from materials found in nature. Participants will make
baskets making using modern materials and decorations. To register,

AURORA TO PRESENT 38TH ANNUAL QUILT SHOW

The Old Aurora Colony Museum will host its annual show Oct. 15-24. The
show features historic and new quilts, and includes demonstrations of
quilting techniques. The museum is located at 15018 Second St. NE,

WILLAMETTE FALLS, CELILO GROUPS TO HOST SESSIONS

The Willamette Falls Heritage Area Coalition will host at 3 p.m. Oct.
19 a meeting to shape its heritage themes, interpretive venues, and
visitor attractions. The meeting will take place from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m.
Oct. 19 at the Museum of the Oregon Territory, 211 Tumwater Drive,

The Confluence Project will host two open houses during the next month
on its Celilo Falls project.  The first will take place at 5:30 p.m.
Oct. 27 at the Erin Glenn Winery at The Mint, 710 E. 2nd St., The
Dalles.  The second will take place at 4 p .m. Nov. 7 in Miller Hall,
World Forestry Center, 4033 SW Canyon Rd, Portland. The memorial project
will feature a work designed by internationally renowned artist Maya
Linn.

HISTORICAL WALKS SCHEDULED IN DOWNTOWN BEND

The Des Chutes Historical Museum will lead a walk Oct. 29-30 that
examines six historic buildings with notorious pasts in downtown Bend.
The walk is offered six times between 5 and 7 p.m. only. The walk will
be offered six times, and will be approximately 45 minutes in length.

COLUMBIA RESCUE HISTORY TO BE DISCUSSED OCT. 23

Rescue swimmer O’Brien Starr-Hollow will give a short history of U.S.
Coast Guard Aviation and stories of rescues at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the
Columbia River Museum in Astoria. O’Brien Starr-Hollow will relate
some of the more notable stories of rescues but will also address the
need for rescue swimmers in this region. For more information, phone
