Applications to be appointed to the Oregon Heritage Commission are now
being accepted by Gov. John Kitzhaber.
The Oregon Heritage Commission is the primary agency for coordination
of heritage services and programs. Among its responsibilities include
adoption of an Oregon Heritage Plan, increasing efficiency and avoiding
duplication among interest groups, encouraging tourism activities
related to heritage resources, and designating statewide anniversary
celebrations.
The Commission is comprised of nine members appointed by the Governor.
Commissioners represent all heritage interests that reflect the cultural
and geographic diversity of Oregon as well as heritage interests
reflected in community institutions. There is currently one open
position. (The Commission is assisted by nine advisory members
representing agencies and statewide organizations identified by
statute.)
Commissioners are expected to participate in meetings at least
quarterly and in committee meetings, to serve as the commission’s
ambassadors to organizations and people in their communities, and to be
active in local and regional heritage organizations.
To apply, complete the interest form found on the Governor’s Executive
Appointments webpage http://www.oregon.gov/gov/pages/boards.aspx For
