THE IMPORTANCE OF PRESERVING THE HISTORIC FABRIC OF COMMUNITY ON
EXCHANGE

DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH GRANT DEADLINE APPROACHES
The deadline is approaching for SHPO’s Diamonds in the Rough grants.
These grants help to restore or reconstruct heavily altered facades of
buildings. The purpose is to return them to their historic appearance
and potentially qualify them for historic register designation (local or
national). These grants are part of the Preserving Oregon Grant Program
for the 2013-15 biennium. The deadline is Oct. 31. Visit the grants page

HERITAGE BULLETIN OFFERS ADVICE FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS, ADMINISTRATION

ONE WEEK LEFT TO APPLY FOR OREGON HERITAGE FELLOWSHIP
Full-time undergraduate and graduate students of an Oregon university
or college have one week left to apply for an Oregon Heritage
Fellowship. The application deadline is Oct. 25. Fellowship projects can
include Oregon-related research topics in history, geography,
archaeology, cultural heritage or historic preservation. Recipients will
present their research process and findings at the 2014 Oregon Heritage

HERITAGE COMMISSION TO MEET, NOV. 4 IN HOOD RIVER
The Oregon Heritage Commission will meet at 9 a.m., Nov. 4 at the
History Museum of Hood River County, 300 E. Port Marina Drive, Hood
River.
The Heritage Commission is comprised of nine people representing
Oregon’s heritage and geographical diversity, appointed by the
Governor. There are nine advisory representatives from state agencies
and statewide organizations. The mission of the Oregon Heritage
Commission is to secure, sustain, and enhance Oregon's heritage by
ensuring coordination of heritage initiatives by public and private
organizations; advocacy on its behalf; education of the public about its
extent and value; and promotion and celebration of its diversity.
The meetings are accessible to people with disabilities. Arrange for

STATE ARCHIVES DIGITAL PRESERVATION TRAINING SET OCT. 31
The State Archives will hold a two-hour workshop that covers the basics
of protecting, managing and providing access to digital content selected
for long term preservation, 10 a.m. – noon, Oct. 31 at 800 Summer St.
NE, Salem. The workshop will discuss basic risk management techniques
such as creating a written preservation policy and assessing resources
needed to manage digital content. Attendees will learn how to make
digital content available over time given individual and organizational
policies, technologies and the needs of the end users.
Austin Schulz, of the State Archives staff, will lead the workshop as
part of a national effort to encourage individuals and organizations to
pursue active preservation of their digital content. Pre-registration is

JOB OPENING AT SOU HANNON LIBRARY, ASHLAND
The Hannon Library at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking a
technical-minded, detail-oriented, and self-starting individual to serve
as an Electronic Resources and Digital Projects Specialist. This
position will administer digital collections including collections based
on the local bioregion, First Nations, and history, as well as image
collections and an institutional repository. The position will also will
ensure access to electronic resources, collect usage statistics, and
help maintain the Hannon Library website. For additional information and
