APPLICATIONS FOR OREGON HERITAGE PRESERVATION SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE

Would you like to attend a preservation-related conference, workshop, or training in the next year? The Oregon Heritage Preservation Scholarship provides financial assistance for Oregon residents to attend a preservation-related conference, workshop, or training in the United States between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015. Eligible travel expenses include registration fees, transportation, lodging and meals.

Oregon Heritage will offer the scholarships to those actively involved in local preservation efforts and who demonstrate how attendance at a preservation-related conference, workshop, or training will help meet the preservation needs of their local community.

Scholarships are competitive and offered twice per year. The first-round deadline is June 6. For more information, visit the Oregon Heritage website<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/FINASST/Pages/Scholarships.aspx> or contact Cara Kaser via email<mailto:cara.kaser at state.or.us> or by phone at (503) 986-0670.

OCT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SEARCH REOPENS

Following a preliminary round of interviews, the screening committee for the Oregon Arts Commission/Oregon Cultural Trust executive director search has elected to reopen the application process to ensure a pool of two to three finalists for the public round of interviews. While impressed with initial applicants, the committee determined expanding the search would guarantee a stronger group of finalists. Applications will be accepted at www.Oregonjobs.org<http://www.oregonjobs.org/> through April 28. For questions, email to twyla.lawson at state.or.us<mailto:twyla.lawson at state.or.us>.

NEW GUIDANCE FOR NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATIONS AVAILABLE

New guidance for writing National Register nominations is now available. The document incorporates previous help guides, and includes a formatted example nomination, tips for writing better documents and an overview of the process. A paper USGS map and second set of photos are no longer required.

Accompanying the new guidance is a revised National Register form that eliminates the repetitive "Developmental History" narrative in Section 8 and includes many functional improvements that make the form easier to use. Comments are welcome on both documents through October 2014. Look for the publication of a revised and illustrated version of the guidelines in early 2015.

For information on the new guidance, and to view other National Register information and forms, visit the State Historic Preservation Office website<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/NATREG/Pages/index.aspx>.
