OREGON HERITAGE GRANT DEADLINES APPROACHING MARCH 31 AND APRIL 30

There is still time to apply for grant funding through Oregon Heritage. Grant programs provide support for a variety of projects and can serve as catalyst for additional local support. The Historic Cemetery Grant Program deadline is March 31 and April 30 is the deadline for Oregon Museum Grants.

EXCHANGE HIGHLIGHTS LINKVILLE CEMETERY HISTORY BROCHURE

Klamath Falls City Parks and Klamath County Historical Society’s recent collaboration resulted in a colorful Walking Guide of Linkville Pioneer Cemetery. BLUE BOOK SEEKS PRE-WWII RURAL PUBLIC SCHOOL IMAGES

The Oregon Blue Book is seeking images related to Oregon’s rural public schools prior to World War II for its upcoming 2015-16 edition, which will feature the theme “Celebrating Our Educational Heritage – Oregon’s Historic Rural Public Schools.” Blue Book staff will collect the images for this project from March through May. Of particular interest are colorful images that show samples of students’ schoolwork, photos depicting students working and playing, and visually interesting images of memorabilia related to school sporting events, dances, club events and similar activities.

NAPC ACCEPTING NOMINATION FOR 2014 COMMISSION EXCELLENCE AWARDS

The National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC) is accepting nominations for its 2014 Commission Excellence Awards. The submission deadline is April 15. The awards recognize and honor outstanding efforts and achievements by local historic preservation commissions and boards of architectural review. Award categories include Best Practices - identification and protection of historic resources, public outreach, and technology - and Commission of the Year.

Recognition as part of the Commission Excellence Awards is an effective way to build public support for preservation in your community. Past awards include collaborative video projects, free tax credit workshops, house fairs, and innovation in design guidelines and historic resource surveys. The NAPC encourages nominations from small and large communities.

The awards ceremony will take place at Forum 2014<https://classic.regonline.com/builder/site/default.aspx?EventID=1239917> in Philadelphia, PA, July 16-20. Award recipients will receive one complimentary registration, a mounted award certificate, and an article featuring them in the NAPC newsletter, The Alliance Review. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE RELEASES OREGON AND CALIFORNIA TRAIL BIBLIOGRAPHY

The National Park Service recently released "Across the Plains, Mountains, and Deserts: A Bibliography of the Oregon-California Trail, 1812-1912" (Salt Lake City: The Prairie Dog Press, 2014).

This publication provides a bibliography of emigrant experiences with information for accessing more than 2,500 primary accounts and almost 2,000 secondary sources. Resources cited include nearly 900 live links to personal narratives, as well as books, magazine and newspaper articles, government documents, maps, and manuscript collections.

CULTURAL TRUST / ARTS COMMISSION SEEK EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
