Since 1955 (the year the U.S. began formally tracking natural disasters), Oregon has received 28 major
disaster declarations, two emergency declarations and 49 fire management assistance declarations. Is your archive, library or museum prepared to respond to the next?
Oregon Heritage will be giving up to seven small cultural organizations the opportunity to have a professional consultant help them create a disaster plan for free. In addition to the plan, the consultant will also help the organization conduct a test exercise of it.
Applications to receive full consideration are due March 15. They are available at www.mindyourcollections.org<http://www.mindyourcollections.org>
The offering is the result of a Connecting to Collections grant to Oregon Heritage from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Oregon Heritage, part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, is comprised of the Oregon Heritage Commission, State Historic Preservation Office, and the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries. The Oregon Libraries Association, the Oregon State Library, the Oregon State Archives, the Oregon Historical Society, Tamástslikt Cultural Institute and other organizations are supporting the effort.
