OMA CONFERENCE SET FOR OCT. 11 – 13 IN PENDLETON

The Oregon Museums Association (OMA) conference will take place Oct. 11 – 13 at the Tamástslikt Cultural Institute, 47106 Wildhorse Blvd., Pendleton. This year’s theme is “Telling the Whole Story: Diversity and Change in Today's Museums”. Workshops and sessions will highlight how museum professionals can broaden and enrich their facilities' cultural offerings as they respond to changing audiences, collections, budgets, and environments. CONNECTING TO COLLECTIONS SETS FALL WEBINAR CALENDAR

Connecting to Collections will hold a series of webinars this fall, including sessions on taxidermy care, insurance, labeling practices, deaccessioning and caring for collections during special events. The webinars are free!

OSU OFFERS INTERPRETATION COURSE THIS FALL

Oregon State University will offer Environmental Interpretation this fall (FES 493/593-Environmental Interpretation), which provides students with skill for crafting messages tailored to engage not only visitors to parks, zoos, museums, and nature centers, but also users of digital media. Through dynamic projects and lessons, students will learn about effective communication in interpretive settings via presentations, guided tours, displays, smartphone apps, and new media platforms. This training is applicable to a range of disciplines, including cultural and historical resource management and digital media design. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is accepting museum grant program applications. The application deadline for each of program is Dec. 1. AMERICAN THEATRE ARCHIVE PROJECT SET FOR PORTLAND, NOV. 5

The American Theatre Archive Project (ATAP) will hold a training session from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 5 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront hotel, 1401 SW Naito Pkwy.   The ATAP workshop will introduce area archivists, dramaturgs, and scholars to the process through which theatre companies establish an archival program -- the ATAP Initiation Program. STATEWIDE HISTORIC THEATERS SURVEY AND NEEDS ASSESSMENT REPORT AVAILABLE

The University of Oregon's Community Service Center, Travel Oregon, the Oregon Main Street Program, and Pacific Power recently released "Oregon Historic Theaters: Statewide Survey and Needs Assessment," a report containing findings from a year of research on Oregon's 102 historic theaters. The report has five main components, including History and importance of theaters in Oregon; the current state of historic theaters in Oregon; the physical and financial needs expressed by historic theaters via the Oregon Historic Theaters Needs Assessment Survey; recommendations for better supporting historic theaters in the future; and inventory and profiles of historic theaters in Oregon. OREGON NIKKEI SEEKS EDUCATION MANAGER

Oregon Nikkei Endowment is seeking an education manager to oversee the Center's Education, Family and Public Programs. The education manager will work closely with staff to conceptualize, design and carry out educational programming for all audiences. Required qualifications include a degree in museum education or education, familiarity with the Common Core Standards, knowledge of Portland, the Pacific Northwest and U.S. history. The successful candidate will have experience in the museum education field and a sense of teaching philosophies; managerial, training and fund raising experience; excellent writing skills; the ability to work well with others and experience conducting tours.
