OREGON HERITAGE SEEKS HERITAGE COMMISSION COORDINATOR - APPLY BY AUG. 22

Oregon Heritage is hiring! The Oregon Heritage Commission Coordinator works with the volunteer Oregon Heritage Commission to develop statewide heritage efforts. Together with the outreach team, the coordinator promotes Oregon heritage and, as an asset for the state, provides training and support to people and organizations doing heritage work, and encourages collaboration among heritage and other organizations.

Oregon Heritage is part of Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, the coordinator works with other state agencies and statewide nonprofits, to enhance resources for heritage efforts. Projects like the Oregon Heritage Vitality report, the heritage tourism study, Oregon Connecting to Collections project and MentorCorps are examples of the scope of work.

The coordinator is part of the heritage outreach team. All members of the team implement projects and programs related to the Oregon Heritage Commission and help people access the services of Oregon Heritage, which also includes the State Historic Preservation Office.

In addition to developing the Oregon Heritage Plan and the statewide collaborations, the coordinator works with the team on key programs including the Oregon Heritage Conference, Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards, Oregon Heritage Traditions, communications and grants. The outreach team, which includes Kuri Gill, Sheri Stuart and Katie Henry, are excited to welcome someone with enthusiasm, a strong service ethic, creativity, and some fun!

2018 OREGON HERITAGE CONFERENCE CALL FOR PROPOSALS!

The Oregon Heritage Conference will be taking place at the Deschutes County Museum in Bend on April 11-13, 2018. Oregon Heritage invites ideas and proposals that explore this year's theme: People, Place, Change.

If you would like to submit a proposal, please provide: 1) the moderator's name, title, organization, and contact information; 2) a session title and type (workshop, lecture, or panel); 3) a description of the session proposal in 75 words or less; and 4) information on any additional presenters.

The Oregon Heritage Conference brings together people who love and work with Oregon's heritage. Designed to be interdisciplinary, the conference focuses on all sectors of cultural heritage, such as historic preservation, museums, archives, libraries, historic cemeteries, and local and state government.

WILLAMETTE HERITAGE CENTER EXHIBIT FEATURES THE JAPANESE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE DURING WWII

The Willamette Heritage Center is proud to announce it will host the debut of a new national traveling exhibition by Go For Broke National Education Center, "Courage and Compassion: Our Shared Story of the Japanese American WWII Experience."

The exhibit will chronical the story of the Japanese American experience during WWII, and feature local stories of bravery and tolerance from the Willamette Valley. The GFBNEC exhibit is funded in part by a 2016 grant administered by the National Park Service (NPS). The exhibition will reflect on the Japanese American experience from wartime incarceration and postwar resettlement to the redress movement that results in the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. The interactive exhibit will feature images and audio of firsthand accounts, including interviews of Japanese American soldiers from GFBNEC's Hanashi Oral History Collection.

ODOT SEEKS CULTURAL RESOURCE SPECIALIST

ODOT is recruiting for a limited duration cultural resource specialist to join the Region 2 Environmental Unit in Salem. The purpose of this position is to be a staff expert in the fields of historic preservation, architecture, cultural analysis, and the Federal Highway Administration's Section 4(f).  This individual analyzes and documents the impacts of projects and other department activities on historic sites and structures, recreation property, and wildlife and waterfowl refuges. Research includes scoping projects, conducting field surveys, and document searches. This person also has contact with planners, historians and preservationists, and citizens to aid in determining the status of potentially historic properties.

MULTNOMAH COUNTY SEEKS OHS LEVY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The Levy Oversight Committee will ensure accountability for the expenditure of Oregon Historical Society levy funds approved by voters, and shall advise and support the Oregon Historical Society in ensuring that its board, partnerships, staff, exhibits and programs proactively represent Multnomah County's diverse communities. Members will be representative of Multnomah County's diverse communities.
The committee will meet at least twice a year at times to be determined.
Prospective members should:

  *   Live in Multnomah County
  *   Have a background or interest in history or storytelling
  *   A passion for cultural preservation
  *   Be dedicated to equity-focused decision making
  *   Experience in strategic planning and budget review
