Dehn holds a BA in English & Spanish from Buena Vista University and an MA in Folklore from the University of Oregon with a Museum Studies Certificate.

"We are pleased to welcome Beth aboard," said Chrissy Curran, director of Heritage Division of Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, where the commission is housed. "Her breadth of experience and enthusiasm for the work make her a great fit for the position."

The Heritage Commission is comprised of nine people representing Oregon's heritage and geographical diversity. There are also nine advisory representatives from state agencies and statewide organizations. The mission of the Heritage Commission is to secure, sustain, and enhance Oregon's heritage by ensuring coordination of heritage initiatives by public and private organizations; advocacy on its behalf; education of the public about its extent and value; and promotion and celebration of its diversity. SAVE THE DATE - SAH MDR CONFERENCE IN ASTORIA, MAY 18-20, 2018

The date and location for the annual conference of the Marion Dean Ross/Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians has been set! The conference will be held in Astoria, Oregon, May 18-20, 2018.

Our conference committee is working away, planning a stellar conference, as you can imagine it would be in such a wonderful place. Please mark your calendars.

The Call for Papers will come out next month, in November. Please consider submitting an abstract. The theme will center around Astoria's traditional maritime history. It will also focus on the diversity of people who settled in Astoria over time and made it their home through the traditions they brought with them, the traditions they forged once arriving in Clatsop County, and of course, the resulting architecture. As usual, papers are also encouraged that reflect other themes relevant to the chapter's mission.

FOUR ORAL HISTORY WEBSITES RELEASE BY OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

Four new oral history websites comprising more than 550 hours of content have been released by the Oral History Program<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/oralhistory.html> at the Oregon State University Libraries<http://library.oregonstate.edu/> Special Collections and Archives Research Center<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/index.html> (SCARC). Three of these websites were built using open source resources that are available to other repositories seeking to provide online access to their own oral history collections.
OSU 150
The largest of these sites, The OSU Sesquicentennial Oral History Project<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/oh150/index.html>, celebrates 150 years of OSU history by presenting 276 interviews conducted with OSU alumni, faculty, staff, current students and supporters. The project's web portal is comprised of more than 400 hours of media and over 3.4 million words of transcription. About 1.8 TB of born-digital content were collected in building what is the largest oral history project ever conducted at Oregon State.
The vast majority of the interviews presented on the site were video recorded and all are contextualized with full-text transcripts, interview abstracts and biographical sketches. Users also have the option of sorting interviews by interviewee affiliation or interview theme<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/oh150/interviews-sorted.html>, and are free to download .mp3 audio files<https://oregonstate.app.box.com/s/2egzftokxd0omw9feniwsvn3vtdqg0u8> of all interviews as well.
OHMS/Omeka Sites
In addition, three websites using a combination of the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS) and the Omeka web publishing platform are also now available. These websites are:

  * Multicultural Voices of Oregon<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/omeka/exhibits/show/multiculturalvoices/main/>, which features interviews collected by the Oregon Multicultural Archives<https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/oma> and the OSU Queer Archives<https://guides.library.oregonstate.edu/osqa>, both programs within SCARC.
  * Voices of Northwest Brewing<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/omeka/exhibits/show/brewingvoices/main/>, an outgrowth of the Oregon Hops and Brewing Archives<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/ohba.html>, also housed in SCARC.
  * Voices of Oregon Agricultural College<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/omeka/exhibits/show/oacvoices/main/>, a project that presents digitized audiocassettes and transcripts that were originally created in the late 1970s. These interviews were conducted with alumni and faculty associated with OAC, as Oregon State University was known prior to 1927.
All three of these websites utilize a combination of OHMS, the Omeka Seasons theme, the OHMSObject plug-in, and custom .css and .php modifications that have been released<https://github.com/osulp/scarc-omeka-themes/tree/master/oralhistories> by the OSU Libraries on GitHub. Additional details on how the sites were created are provided in Technical Notes<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/omeka/exhibits/show/multiculturalvoices/about/> appended to each project.
For more information on any of these initiatives, please contact Chris Petersen<http://osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/staff/petersec>, Senior Faculty Research Assistant in SCARC.

ARE YOU A BLUE STAR MUSEUM?

With Veterans Day approaching we thought we would remind Oregon museums of the Blue Star Museum program run by the National Endowment for the Arts. Those museums that participate in this program offer free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. To learn more about the program or to learn about how your museum can be a part of it, visit https://www.arts.gov/national/blue-star-museums. Museums interested in participating in Blue Star Museums in summer 2018 should email bluestarmuseums at arts.gov<mailto:bluestarmuseums at arts.gov>.

For those that wish to find out what museums are Blue Star Museum, you can visit https://www.arts.gov/national/blue-star-museums and see museums in Oregon and across the nation that are part of this program.
