LORD & SCHRYVER CONSERVANCY SEEKS FULL-TIME EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

provides the opportunity for the Executive Director to assume a leadership role in the Conservancy and a unique opportunity to engage with the horticulture, design, preservation, and civic improvement communities in the region.

Priorities for the Executive Director, in order of priority, will be to: build strong fundraising and sustainability practices for the Conservancy's structure; develop successful public programming stemming from the mission; lead community outreach for the Conservancy; support the vision of the Board of Directors; manage staff and operations; and oversee financial operations.  This position is responsible for providing support to the Board, as well as operational, fiscal, staff and volunteer management for the Conservancy and Gaiety Hollow.

This is a full-time position and reports to the President of the Board.  Some weekend and evening work is required.  Salary range is $60-65,000 with competitive benefits, and includes a contribution to health insurance.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in nonprofit organizational leadership and management, communications, fundraising, and program development.

Walking through Delta Park, you'd never guess that the second largest city in Oregon, home to over 40,000 people, once stood there. Come explore the history of Vanport, its vibrant community, and the flood that in 1948 displaced it.

Mixing archival photographs and historical records with personal testimonies of former residents, this pop-up exhibit presents the multifaceted story of Vanport and its vibrant community. It is a story of migration, housing, displacement, and perseverance.

5TH ANNUAL HERITAGE BARN WORKSHOP OCT. 7 IN UNION

Do you own an old barn or have a love for them? Then join us and fellow barn enthusiasts for the 5th Annual Heritage Barn Workshop!

Learn about practical solutions from experts on how to maintain, rehabilitate, and adapt old barns for today's needs. Learn about the history and technology of barns as well as barn maintenance, adaptive reuse, and preservation. The workshop will also highlight funding options available for owners of heritage barns in Oregon.

Heritage barns remain an iconic symbol of rural America and our agricultural heritage. Just as the number of heritage barns decreases, so does the number of skilled craftspeople with working knowledge of barn preservation and restoration. Restore Oregon has pulled together some of the state's remaining and most well-versed "barn people" to share their skills and expertise with other barn owners.

The Annual Heritage Barn Workshop will be held in Union at the OSU Eastern Oregon Agriculture Research Center's red brick headquarters on the research center grounds. Restore Oregon has partnered with the Eastern Oregon Visitors Association, Oregon State University Extension, Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce, Wallowa County Grain Growers Baker County Tourism to provide this exceptional educational opportunity.

OREGON'S STATE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION MEETS IN SALEM OCT. 20

Oregon's State Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation (SACHP) will consider nominations to the National Register of Historic Places in a one-day meeting on October 20 at the North Mall Office Building located at 725 Summer Street NE in Salem.  The committee will be taking tours of recent historic preservation projects in Salem during the morning, and these are open to the public. Tours will include the Oregon Supreme Court Building (1163 State Street NE) at 9:00 AM, the Salem Train Station Baggage Depot (500 13th Street NE) at 10:00 AM, and the Roth-McGilchrist Building (102-110 Liberty Street NE) at 11:00 AM. State Historic Preservation Staff presentations will be made at 12:00 PM, and nomination hearings will begin at 2:30 PM in the North Mall Office Building in conference rooms 124 A and B.

The committee will review proposed nominations for the Spring Valley School in northeast Polk County, and for the Central Oregon Canal Historic District, in Deschutes County, near Bend.  A meeting agenda is available at http:www.oregonheritage.org/OPRD/HCD/NATREG/nrhp_sachphome.shtml.

Nominations recommended by the SACHP go to the National Park Service, which maintains the Register under the authority of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.  Members of the committee hold credentials in many historic preservation-related fields.

HISTORIC CEMETERIES COMMISSION MEETS OCT. 13 IN MORO

The Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries will meet at 1 p.m. October 13 at the OSU Sherman County Extension Office, 66365 Lonerock Road, Moro. Agenda items will include cemetery ownership, statewide cemetery clean-up days, grant projects, current projects and upcoming plans. The commission will also discuss draft administrative rules for the implementation of recent legislation. This legislation created a program to provide permits to organizations that want to maintain and preserve abandoned cemeteries. The commission will invite public comments. The meeting will also be accessible online. State law established the seven-member Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries to maintain a listing of all historic cemeteries and gravesites in Oregon; promote public education on the significance of historic cemeteries; and obtain financial and technical assistance for restoring, improving and maintaining their appearances.

The Oregon Advocacy Commissions (Oregon Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs/OCAPIA, Oregon Commission on Black Affairs/OCBA, Oregon Commission on Hispanic Affairs/OCHA, and the Oregon Commission for Women/OCFW) will hold a Joint Meeting from 9:30am to 3:00pm on Friday, October 6th, 2017, with each Commission holding its Regular meeting from 12:15pm - 1:00pm.

The meetings will include discussion on topics of interest to the Commissions.
