2018 OREGON HERITAGE CONFERENCE & EXCELLENCE AWARDS - SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Each year, the Oregon Heritage Commission brings together the leaders and volunteer organizers of the historic preservation, heritage, historic cemeteries, landmark commissions, historic trails, main streets, and historical societies in Oregon. We host two events: The Oregon Heritage Conference and the Heritage Excellence Awards.

The 2018 Oregon Heritage Conference and Heritage Excellence Awards will be in Bend April 11-13 and we invite you to be a visible supporter of these events by becoming a sponsor. Your sponsorship will put you in a positive spotlight, and bring you recognition as a supporter of the Oregon heritage community. We expect about 300 registrants from around the state.

There are many levels of sponsorship to choose from, ranging from a session sponsor to conference program sponsor to a plenary speaker sponsor or awards dinner sponsor. Those that choose higher levels will be included in advance marketing and have exposure via our email lists, mailing, and social media updates. Please note there is a Feb. 1 deadline for those that wish to have their logo included in marketing and the program.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR THE 2018 SALLY DONOVAN AWARD FOR HISTORIC CEMETERY PRESERVATION IN OREGON

Nominations for the 2018 Sally Donovan Award for Historic Cemetery Preservation, part of the Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards Program, are now being accepted.

This award recognizes an individual, business, or organization for outstanding efforts on behalf of Oregon historic cemeteries, drawing public attention to these efforts, and raising the quality of historic cemetery activities.

Nominations are encouraged for all efforts that lead to the preservation of a historic cemetery or contribute to the preservation of historic cemeteries statewide. Examples may include the establishment of a preservation program, the reclaiming and care of an abandoned cemetery, training others in monument repair, documentation, public education, tools that enhance cemetery preservation, etc.

This award was named for Sally Donovan who brought cemetery preservation to the forefront in this state and personally influenced monument repair in dozens of cemeteries.

This award is part of the Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/Pages/award_info.aspx>. Announcement of awardees will be made in early April 2018. Awards will be presented on April 12 at the Oregon Heritage Conference<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/Pages/Conference.aspx> in Bend by Oregon Heritage, part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Tickets for the awards presentation will be made available in February.

COLLECTIONS CARE BASICS WORKSHOP FEB. 14 IN THE DALLES

On Wednesday February 14th we celebrate Oregon's 159th Birthday and Valentine's Day.  So let's work together to show our heritage some love!

Carolyn Purcell, Executive Director of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, will lead a free training on Collections Care Basics.  This is available to all regional heritage organizations, as well as anyone who has a precious heritage collection they want to preserve for the future.

Join Carolyn from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the classroom for an informative Presentation, discussion of best practices, and light refreshments.  Pre-registration is required.  Call 541-296-8600, ext. 245.

LORD AND SCHRYVER CONSERVANCY SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Lord & Schryver Conservancy  is a local Salem non-profit whose mission is to preserve and interpret the legacy of Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver.  These two notable landscape architects designed over 250 gardens in the Northwest.   After a decade of research and restoration of other Lord & Schryver projects, the Conservancy achieved its goal of purchasing Gaiety Hollow, the personal garden, home and studio of Lord and Schryver which it is now developing  into a cultural and educational center for the community.  The Conservancy is governed by a hardworking volunteer Board of Directors and employs a full-time Garden Manager, who is assisted by volunteers.

This new position provides the opportunity for the Executive Director to assume a leadership role in the Conservancy and a unique opportunity to engage with the horticulture, design, preservation, and civic improvement communities in the region.
Priorities for the Executive Director, in order of priority, will be to: build strong fundraising and sustainability practices for the Conservancy's structure; develop successful public programming stemming from the mission; lead community outreach for the Conservancy; support the vision of the Board of Directors; manage staff and operations; and oversee financial operations.  This position is responsible for providing support to the Board, as well as operational, fiscal, staff and volunteer management for the Conservancy and Gaiety Hollow.

This is a full-time position and reports to the President of the Board.  Some weekend and evening work is required.  Salary range is $60-65,000 with competitive benefits, and includes a contribution to health insurance.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in nonprofit organizational leadership and management, communications, fundraising, and program development.

MCMINNVILLE DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Downtown McMinnville is the economic, social and cultural heart of the community.  The McMinnville Downtown Association's Executive Director will build a foundation of success to lead the continued revitalization and growth of our historic downtown. McMinnville is conveniently situated one-hour southwest from Portland, and one hour east from the Oregon Coast. This position will be best filled by a true Jill, or Jack-of-all-trades capable of managing a complex and comprehensive approach to program and partnership development.
This is a 40 hour per week position with a salary of $55,000 - $65,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Please see full job description for more information and how to apply. RESIDENT SCHOLAR PROGRAM AT OSU LIBRARIES NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Oregon State University Libraries Special Collections and Archives Research Center (SCARC) is pleased to announce that applications are once again being solicited for its Resident Scholar Program<http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/residentscholar.html>.

Now in its eleventh year, the Resident Scholar Program provides research grants to scholars interested in conducting work in SCARC. Stipends of $2,500 per month, renewable for up to three months (for a total maximum grant award of $7,500), will be awarded to researchers whose proposals detail a compelling potential use of the materials held in the Center. Grant monies can be used for any purpose.

Researchers will be expected to conduct their scholarly activities while in residence at Oregon State University. Historians, librarians, graduate, doctoral or post-doctoral students and independent scholars are welcome to apply. The deadline for submitting proposals is April 30, 2018.
