The Elisabeth Walton Potter Oregon Heritage Preservation Scholarship provides financial assistance for Oregon residents to attend a heritage preservation-related conference, workshop, or training in the United States. Eligible travel expenses include registration fees, transportation, lodging, and meals.
It is a competitive application process and scholarships will be offered to those actively involved in local preservation efforts and who demonstrate how attendance at a heritage preservation-related conference, workshop, or training will help meet the heritage preservation needs of their local community. Awards range from $500-$1,500, depending on applicant eligibility, priorities, criteria and the number of applicants. Applications that include some match are more competitive.
This round of applications is for conferences/workshop/trainings occurring between July 1, 2018-Dec. 31, 2018. Applications are due June 1, 2018.

HAVE YOU FILLED OUT THE OREGON HERITAGE DIGITAL COLLECTIONS SURVEY YET?
We’re contacting you to ask for information about your organization’s digital collections.
Oregon Heritage<http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/hcd/pages/index.aspx> has been working with our partners on collaborative approaches to digitizing collections. With some efforts underway, we are now conducting a survey to capture information from heritage organizations of all sizes. Not digitizing? That’s still valuable for us to know!
We would like to hear from organizations that are:
- Small & mid-sized
- Run by volunteers & paid-staff
- Digitizing collections & NOT digitizing collections
We will use the information gathered in this survey to:
- Determine strategies, tools and trainings that will be most helpful to organizations at all stages of the digitization process.
- Help us consider how to get collections from smaller organizations into the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).
What do we mean by digital collections? These can include cultural heritage materials that have been scanned (like photographs, postcards, court records or letters) or that originate in digital form (like digital photos or oral histories recorded digitally).
To respond to the survey, please go here<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K5FBFRV>. It should take approximately 15 minutes. The survey must be completed by April 30, 2018.
If you have any questions, are having trouble completing the survey or would rather fill out a paper copy of the survey, please contact Beth Dehn at beth.dehn at oregon.gov<mailto:beth.dehn at oregon.gov> or 503-586-0696. All organizations that complete the census and include an email address will receive a copy of the results no later than June 30, 2018.
Thank you for your response. We look forward to understanding and meeting the needs of diverse cultural heritage organizations.

This report was put out last year by the Oregon Heritage Commission to be used as a resource for those planning collection care projects. It also shows options for three different budget sizes depending on what your organization is working with.
To access the report, visit http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/docs/Collections%20Budget%20Report_FINAL_8_17_17.pdf.

OPRD OPENS SECOND COMMENT PERIOD FOR NEW RULE CONCERNING ABANDONED CEMETERIES
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is opening a second comment period on a proposed rule change that would establish a permit to restore, maintain or preserve an abandoned cemetery. The deadline for public comment on the amendments is March 30, 2018.
The department made modifications to the proposed rules since the first comment period in December 2017 and is required by law to solicit public comment again. Staff will consider responses from both comment periods in a final recommendation to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission for its April 2018 business meeting.
The proposed rules, developed in consultation with the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries, outline the process for entities to apply for permits and permit requirements. The amendments are a result of House Bill 2516, passed during the 2017 session.
The full text of the amendments to Oregon Administrative Rule 736-054-0040 to 736-054-0150 is available online at http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/RULES/pages/index.aspx. Comments can be made directly on this webpage, through e-mail to OPRD.publiccomment at oregon.gov<mailto:OPRD.publiccomment at oregon.gov> or in writing to OPRD, Attn.: Katie Gauthier, 725 Summer St. NE, Suite C, Salem OR 97301.
OPRD offers a grant program for protection, restoration and education of historic cemeteries. Information about the program is available at http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/FINASST/Pages/grants.aspx#Historic_Cemeteries_Grant_Program
