OHS seeks history day judges

Oregon History Day is fast approaching, and you can volunteer to be a judges for this year's contest! Over the course of the year, middle and high school students from across the state have been working hard to produce quality historical research projects based on this year's theme, "Tragedy & Triumph in History." At the state contest on Saturday, April 27, 2019, these students will have the opportunity to present their work - their exhibits, performances, papers, websites or documentaries - to our esteemed panel of judges!

As a judge, you will not only assess the quality of the students' projects, but will also provide them with valuable feedback on how to revise and strengthen their work, both now and in the future. The event will take place at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland. Judges will need to attend an orientation and training session from 8 AM - 9 AM on the morning of the contest. After that, panels of three judges will conduct student interviews from approximately 9 AM - 2 PM. All judges will also be provided with a light breakfast, snacks, a delicious buffet lunch, and lots of inspiration from some of Oregon's brightest young minds!

If you are interested in being a judge at the History Day state contest, please contact history.day at ohs.org<mailto:history.day at ohs.org>. If you would like to know more about the contest visit: http://ohs.org/education/oregon-history-day/index.cfm.

When the City of Canby re-instituted its Heritage and Landmark Commission<https://www.canbyoregon.gov/CityGovernment/committees/historic.htm> after a decade of inactivity, commission members quickly realized that building community support for historic preservation was their greatest challenge. As a result, the group decided to make community outreach and involvement a significant element of all of their heritage initiatives.
