Training scholarship opportunity for central and southeastern Oregon heritage organizations

Oregon Heritage MentorCorps: 2019 Regional Training Scholarship
Applications are on first come first serve basis!

The Oregon Heritage MentorCorps started in 2014 as a statewide network of volunteers trained in the museum field and to assist organizations with finding solutions, resources, and training volunteers and staff. In 2017, financial assistance was allotted through the Oregon Heritage MentorCorps to several regions of the state for technical assistance. This scholarship is available to assist heritage organizations in the central & southeastern region of the state, specifically organizations located in Grant, Harney, Malheur, Lake, Crook, Deschutes, Wheeler, and Jefferson County, to pay the registration fee ($149) for a Connecting to Collections four-week long webinar course on Collections Management for Smaller Cultural Institutions (https://www.connectingtocollections.org/course-collections-management/). It is on a first come first serve basis with the completion and approval of an application to request the funds.

Connecting to Collections webinar series course on Collections Management for Smaller Cultural Institutions

During this four-week long course participants will learn about essential aspects of collection management, from the acquisition and registration of objects through the care, use, and deaccessioning of objects. The importance of collection storage and exhibit environments and collection management policies will be considered as participants produce a needs assessment for their home institution's collections.

OHS seeks history day judges

Oregon History Day is fast approaching, and you can volunteer to be a judges for this year's contest! Over the course of the year, middle and high school students from across the state have been working hard to produce quality historical research projects based on this year's theme, "Tragedy & Triumph in History." At the state contest on Saturday, April 27, 2019, these students will have the opportunity to present their work - their exhibits, performances, papers, websites or documentaries - to our esteemed panel of judges!

As a judge, you will not only assess the quality of the students' projects, but will also provide them with valuable feedback on how to revise and strengthen their work, both now and in the future. The event will take place at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland. Judges will need to attend an orientation and training session from 8 AM - 9 AM on the morning of the contest. After that, panels of three judges will conduct student interviews from approximately 9 AM - 2 PM. All judges will also be provided with a light breakfast, snacks, a delicious buffet lunch, and lots of inspiration from some of Oregon's brightest young minds!

Nominations open for 2019 Oregon Stewardship Award

The MNCH is accepting nominations for the annual Oregon Stewardship Award. Spearheaded by the Museum Advisory Council, the award recognizes an environmental or cultural heritage project that involves the community and aligns with the museum's mission to inspire stewardship of our past, present, and future. The recipient will receive $1000 and be recognized at an award reception and in the 'Oregon Heroes' display in our Explore Oregon exhibit.
