Pacific Northwest Maritime Heritage Council seeks volunteers and partners

The Pacific NW Maritime Heritage Council, a thirty-year-old volunteer-led organization, seeks both volunteers and potential collaborations as it seeks to reposition itself to better serve the broader maritime heritage community, ports and coastal communities. This effort is driven, in part, by the recent announcement by the National Park Service of the newly formed Maritime Washington National Heritage Area.

The Council's need is increased support (volunteer/interns/financial) to keep our maritime heritage colleagues in Oregon (as well as BC and Alaska) engaged and supported in the face of increased demand on our limited resources to support the three-year planning effort for the new - first in the nation - Maritime Heritage Area. We need assistance with a variety of tasks including the use of MailChimp and WordPress to drive engagement. We are also in need of a host who can provide a fall meeting location for Oregon's maritime community to meet and explore ways that the Council can improve our services to local communities, museums, historical societies, traditional boat groups, lighthouse groups, heritage and tourism agencies.

Oregon Humanities grant opportunities

Oregon Humanities has allocated an additional $5,000 for Responsive Program Grants for programs taking place before December 31, 2019. They are also currently accepting letters of interest for the 2020 Public Program Grants.

Oregon Humanities is committed to funding programming that centers those most affected by a topic in order to highlight perspectives that have been historically undervalued, and particularly programming based in and led by rural communities and/or communities of color.

Oregon Humanities' grants help support programs that help communities explore complex topics, build community voice and power, and are timely and responsive. Programs can be in multiple languages or be in a language other than English.

Oregon Humanities' Responsive Program Grants enable nonprofit organizations and federally recognized tribes in Oregon to address urgent or timely issues in their communities. Awards of up to $1,000 are given on a rolling basis until the allocated funds have been fully awarded.

Oregon Humanities has allocated additional funds for grants in our current fiscal year to find ways to respond to the causes and effects of the recent escalation of violence and hatred towards members of our communities at local, state, and national levels. An additional $5,000 is available for programs taking place before December 31, 2019 and we are inviting community groups affected by this escalation of violence to apply now through October 20, 2019.

Guidelines for the 2020 Responsive Program Grants will be live on our website the first week of October.

Take the 2019 Oregon Nonprofit Sector Survey so the heritage nonprofit voices are heard

Nonprofit Association of Oregon invites all 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in Oregon to participate in the 2019 Oregon Nonprofit Sector Survey.

Your collective input is critical for all of us to understand the state of the nonprofit sector and will allow us to identify trends, issues, and challenges affecting Oregon's nonprofit landscape. (The last Oregon sector report was released in 2016.) The 2019 survey findings will be a valuable resource to inform the work and decision making of nonprofits, funders, policy makers, those who serve Oregon's nonprofit sector, and others. The survey results will also help NAO shape our future programs and services.

We invite ALL Oregon 501(c)(3) organization chief executive officers/executive directors or their designees to participate in this survey - our goal is to have the leader (or designee) of the nonprofit take this survey, as well as to have them share the link with their peers at other nonprofits. In the case where a 501(c)(3) nonprofit is all volunteer based, the board chair/president should complete the survey.

If you're not a 501(c)(3) organization CEO/ED (designee) or board chair/president at an all-volunteer-based 501(c)(3) organization, we would appreciate it if you could forward this message to the leaders of those organizations. The more nonprofits that participate, the richer the data and the more opportunity we will have to gain a robust understanding of the impacts on our collective work. The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete.

Contact information will remain strictly confidential and survey responses will be anonymized. Survey findings will be consolidated into an Oregon Nonprofit Sector Report.

This survey will be open until end of day Monday, September 30, 2019.

Thank you very much for making the time to share your perspective in this survey - your input is critical to having a robust and rich findings report to share with you all.

Begin survey here: www.surveymonkey.com/r/SoS2019Oregon<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001du4reve1kUXAHeHg-xmEeQLRIQJ9nOEkmDW4qo9GwdkLSCOcQZMSB6HacIbjUUn1nauO00OdTo9eUoW2o5bKUAlrcZ0T3UE80iUTgOCA0UzVCGK3uvVeeR_ywGfz6uY0-PxgvHmt4w8O9UdV0L0skZnM5Gu8Dhw0s53Xx_UG8fEdvqeieJiqLILXQgHJdCardFL04QK9H2o=&c=xb0Am_MrR9L5nbIir6hKl7oNk7ao-GNH7K0CL2RovifSS40ssHFI2g==&ch=RTrggiEhbxi7ElM6sh32xO2tpBEVsC3O3vE2mJB090cmGIUtrEU1kw==>
