Oregon Heritage COVID-19 Commiseration Call Part 2 April 23

SAVE THE DATE for Thursday, April 23, 11am-12pm for an Oregon Heritage COVID-19 Commiseration Call (Part 2).

Last week Oregon Heritage staff organized it's first "Commiseration Call" and one thing was clear, it was really nice to have an opportunity to connect with folks! One of our main goals for these calls is to emphasize that you are not alone and you have a network of heritage folks across the state to get ideas, share ideas, and just connect in a constructive way.

Next week's conversation will focus on strategies to communicate with stakeholder groups such as members, donors, foundations, sponsors, etc., to continue support of your organization and its mission during this critical time. Value messaging will be critical to these efforts and will also be discussed during this conversation.

Details on the call can be found here<https://calendar.google.com/calendar/event?eid=NzIzZmpic3E0ZjZjaDN2dDA4ZjR1dWg2bGsgOGFrNXA1b241cDBldjZqajg4dWVsanVxNDBAZw&ctz=America/Los_Angeles>.

AAM webinar: Lessons Learned from SARS: How Museums Emerge After Crisis April 22

April 22, 10-11am
Presented by AAM

As museum leaders today navigate the unprecedented impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, including staff furloughs and layoffs, lost revenue, and the uncertainties of reopening, what can we learn from museums that have experienced and survived similar challenges? Join key former members of the team who led the Ontario Science Centre through two crises in the early 2000s: a public-service strike that led to the shutdown of the museum for eight weeks in 2002 and the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic in 2003 that resulted in widespread quarantine, derailed tourism, and staggering economic loss in Toronto.

They'll share their experiences and strategies for:

  *   Reopening the museum
  *   Supporting team members
  * Reassuring visitors and potential visitors
  *   Financial recovery
Panelists:

  * Lesley Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, Ontario Science Centre (from 1998-2014)
  * Jennifer Martin, former Vice President of Visitor Experience, Ontario Science Centre; former and Founding Chief Executive Officer, TELUS Spark
  * Julie Bowen, former Associate Director of Development and Design, Ontario Science Centre; former Vice President of Visitor Experience, TELUS Spark
Moderator:
Elizabeth Merritt, Vice President of Strategic Foresight and Founding Director of the Center for the Future of Museums, American Alliance of Museums

USDA Unveils Tool to Help Rural Communities Address the COVID-19 Pandemic

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue unveiled a one-stop-shop of federal programs that can be used by rural communities, organizations and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 Federal Rural Resource Guide<https://lnks.gd/l/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJidWxsZXRpbl9saW5rX2lkIjoxMDAsInVyaSI6ImJwMjpjbGljayIsImJ1bGxldGluX2lkIjoiMjAyMDA0MTMuMjAwNzA0MDEiLCJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL3d3dy5yZC51c2RhLmdvdi9zaXRlcy9kZWZhdWx0L2ZpbGVzL1VTREFfQ09WSUQtMTlfRmVkX1J1cmFsX1Jlc291cmNlX0d1aWRlLnBkZiJ9.HlFKs7gEPxxIuI9SBZDuq-_sre6pmBugeWflRL58rv4/br/77324971625-l> (PDF, 349 KB) is a first-of-its-kind resource for rural leaders looking for federal funding and partnership opportunities to help address this pandemic.

"Under the leadership of President Trump, USDA is committed to being a strong partner to rural communities preparing for and impacted by COVID-19," Perdue said. "This resource guide will help our rural leaders, whether they are in agriculture, education, health care or any other leadership capacity, understand what federal assistance is available for their communities during this unprecedented time."

USDA has taken many immediate actions to assist farmers, ranchers, producers, rural communities, and rural-based businesses and organizations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Participate in Emergency Preparedness MayDay for a chance to win!

In previous years, May 1 has been a day that libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and preservation organizations across the county are called to participate in MayDay, a national effort of emergency preparedness. Obviously, most of us are in the process of experiencing an emergency given the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the world but it's a good reminder to take a day to review plans, procedures, or just to do one small thing to move that effort forward.

MayDay encourages cultural organizations to take one simple step to protect the art, artifacts, records, books, and historic sites they hold in trust.

FAIC is collecting examples of creative but practical measures to share online. It may be more difficult to organize events with colleagues and find bandwidth for additional tasks during this time while also following guidelines for social distancing and staying home and safe. You can find suggestions by following Connecting to Collection Care Facebook and Twitter accounts in the lead up to MayDay (using #MayDayPrep<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/maydayprep?source=feed_text&epa=HASHTAG&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARCAaRlvyGV1Tb89lbLZA-dPm6gShG2S-QPRFDnen1DpSdzcx74GURKDsUK4jlmpQk8fs1J5pmiizgKOUMkQvudk1fUbiKk5qesG80qiilTOUmYBBVX4aPXTDVD6LYFVNVXZnOA5UgF8Wn14j9JAkNT63ULVHhGrOyGp4nV6HbpjrWWt7eFEA6H02oGuZQUNtHjGYMPdXvKAr50WI8L15_7BLVb16hnHW67HCVUkrdju7Wut2K4FnGcOpes1q5A8yrqmngHalNqdFnIBMWLUa-Axb6-JzXoXINvZ2KakSYgyfCqWMhqIQU4_hdwJp6B_J4OGI5ASwZMqpy80ZXcHesRnzw&__tn__=%2ANK-R>) for how you might organize distance learning and discussion, with a focus on activities that can be done remotely.

Any cultural institution submitting a brief description of their 2020 MayDay plans or accomplishments by May 31, 2020, will be entered in a drawing for prizes donated by Gaylord Archival.
