CAC resource for caring for collections during the pandemic
A new resource, “Caring for Heritage Collections during the COVID-19 Pandemic”, was developed by an ad-hoc task force at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) to help staff from heritage institutions ensure that collections and heritage materials remain safe. The point of departure for the resource were the questions received from collections professionals in various countries and types of institutions.

Disaster Preparedness Mayday activity ideas
Connecting to Collections has been promoting ideas on social media for how to participate in MayDay during this time of social distancing and sheltering in place. Below are some ideas they have put on their Connecting to Collections Facebook page<https://www.facebook.com/C2Ccommunity/>:
April 16 post: As you consider a #MayDayPrep<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/maydayprep?source=feed_text&epa=HASHTAG&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARDljjqbDFJkrzuZm9fGGnuMllZ9dLJa4lyaGka41fUwuuE-lg-Un6-B-0UYHBlQgJs8rgpU3YhL6PYREg57MHMOz2MkWje0eW4se35-CoiDqxRAbZSLJrdUxsEbDlswezjMPjsC_quY4yovgSD5BRH0iEkewip-INy4k8cjGK3nrMmdYNc6RxfI_fOZ4mfshL8jpSdlQ6fveorgpgxzeUCNwYHDYIqBBbYxLQ73F68tZRe1moxmxqyoWL3Ha9nW298OhYJgRJVJDPgqi1ZdtASCYmrL2Fzf2eRtQge2lGUKP9VYQ4V2cR2jMhiIBpUZGveAcSo61B0Rn4f6sb9pNdJpvg&__tn__=%2ANK-R> activity, we encourage everyone to follow medical guidance about social distancing and any federal, state, local, and organizational guidelines on behavior, including group gatherings. The resources we’ll be sharing in the lead up to MayDay this year are all webinar recordings, allowing for maximum flexibility in viewing and discussing materials. One of the easiest ways to hold an activity is via online video or audio conferencing. You could have all participants watch the webinar recording then gather electronically to discuss what they learned and how it could be applied to your organization. You could hold a review of your emergency plan via conference call, with everyone cited in the plan reading out their parts
April 21 post: This week’s theme for #MayDayPrep<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/maydayprep?source=feed_text&epa=HASHTAG&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARBhg9JYk-UB9BULVKXiWSKwFT74r0K6-JkWfBMat5_kLgmi9_9DM6XoynJWAQV-LAwfVm16n-Jaq29f_5aG_03DGF2gZ6AzLFjRJK7XFpE7eH-y7qcLo7ItvgV3Bg7E7Vh1sSmXXCYvIIZU5Z6ouvHc6SZnomj6gYlFJoqTBNuDov4PzREjKrJ0aVRJAnuNFDOfbkCskYnPQzHeULnffbzqh8bWrXSQ9u1wusCoTWACDAmuxvv_EDCdrHEHiOnKLJZWpUbn00QyeIZ_fj6fMURt37xIx-6b5f7CCVqb_8iF615oKkDXFtQxHIbE572mp5nod02j965lX5TrMrwLrvzD9A&__tn__=%2ANK-R> is honing your emergency plan! Our first resource is “Exercising Your Disaster Response Plan,” taught by Julie Page. “Even the best written disaster response plan can be greatly compromised if staff members have not been trained on how to carry it out. Conducting drills and exercises of your institution’s response plan is critical for testing procedures, identifying problems, and discussing solutions. Tabletop exercises, which are dedicated to discussion, and functional exercises, which are focused on hands-on activity, are two especially effective training approaches. In this 90-minute webinar, we discussed techniques for testing your institution’s plan and training staff.” https://www.connectingtocollections.org/exercisingyourplan/
April 23 post: Continuing our theme for this week of #MayDayPrep<https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/maydayprep?source=feed_text&epa=HASHTAG&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARD5pS5NrZoQtX_-8xEgvpTXJSrOddO64BUhlHlBqkwXmvzJ3liGCY8Ey2XUPLJDjzhJ2e_RnMn4eXlq8B26Kllb6FVuSuav_P4gkYdEjVYoO2BkVcZRoyuWTZE5KyN_pFBuePz7_wb9oWtXMx2txUDqqG3KjO0OvMX5BUOpgaI5l80ZScXIEZyNGDQYtaKTxYiwIdvtnppwWCdC0OlCqyJCyqjbjghPHwLHzyKyVG1s3HzmxZUQZx9u0AA8IxzIJQ-OP1eBAhpGuFhdQHlvhgyogHaGDHMasyNzWnGYDsDVUAigPuHPrCZhQY8jdrq09B5GKHMW5-qxUE_SOHLmVYZlhg&__tn__=%2ANK-R>, keep honing your emergency plan! Watch this webinar, “The Supercharged Management System,” led by David Carmichael. “Every cultural repository needs two management structures: the day-to-day, business-as-usual hierarchy, and a “supercharged” management structure that takes over temporarily during a crisis or whenever events threaten to overwhelm normal business routines. Emergency responders have used just such a supercharged structure for years: the Incident Command System (ICS). Whether you are preparing for fires and floods—or planning a major public event—the Incident Command System is a proven management tool that safeguards lives, property, and priceless collections.” https://www.connectingtocollections.org/ics/

Financial planning resources
Cash Flow Template
Many nonprofits are suffering financially during this time and are struggling with where to start in trying to understand how to project and respond to financial losses. This Cash Flow Template<https://www.propelnonprofits.org/resources/cash-flow-template/> can help you map out cash flow each month to predict when you might need to start making some decisions. It was linked within the article “Financial Leadership in the Face of Impossible Choices<https://blogs.claconnect.com/nonprofitinnovation/financial-leadership-in-the-face-of-impossible-choices/>” on the Innovation in Nonprofit Finance Blog.
AAM: Three New Scenarios for Financial Survival in 2020
This post from the American Alliance of Museums helps folks try and map out some different realities for their organization:
* Help you identify key variables that set the stage for each scenario and locate sources of information to track the actual values of these variables.
* Present three “state of the world” scenarios you can use as the seeds for your own stories: a best-case scenario of relatively low impact from the pandemic, a medium-impact scenario, and a high-impact scenario that takes a blunt look at some of the worst possibilities we may face.
* Provide a worksheet for envisioning how your museum can thrive in each of these potential futures.
