Heritage Matters- Stay Positive
In this moment of uncertainty and social isolation, we want to take the opportunity to remind all our heritage groups that what you do matters. The historic places you care for, the objects you protect and interpret, and the traditions you keep build strong, resilient communities in Oregon.
Thank you for responding to recommendations of social distancing and protecting people as best as we can.
There are certainly challenges ahead. Events will be rescheduled, revenue streams will change, but we will weather this together. Oregon Heritage and the Oregon Heritage Commission are committed to providing technical assistance and developing tools and strategies that respond to this current situation and its longer-term ramifications.
What we know about heritage:
* Historic places matter by providing memory and identity through architecture and history.
* Museums steward objects that tell our community's important stories.
* Main Streets create vibrant communities for people to live and work.
* Libraries hold literature and gathering spaces for our community.
* Genealogical societies maintain and connect us to records of our people.
* Historic cemeteries honor the stories of those who came before us.
The common theme is that heritage provides identity and community by preserving our past and connecting it to our future. What your organization provides will anchor people now and will be critical for your community's resilience. We encourage you to engage in community and state recovery conversations and activities for the benefit of your organization and community.
Stay tuned as we share resources and information that can help your organization navigate current challenges, and visit www.oregonheritage.org<http://www.oregonheritage.org> for links to resources from our partners.
