We had a plan for the Plan: Introducing the 2020-2025 Oregon Heritage Plan
Like most folks, we had a plan that was derailed by COVID-19. It was actually a plan to unveil a plan. We were pretty excited about it. I know what you are thinking, being excited to roll out a plan probably sounds weird, but it's true. Because this plan was a little different for us. So, specifically, we had a plan to unveil the 2020-2025 Oregon Heritage Plan at the now canceled 2020 Oregon Heritage Conference and...It. Was. Going. To. Be. AWESOME!!
What is this plan you might ask?
The Oregon Heritage Plan is a five year plan created by the Oregon Heritage Commission. Traditionally it has been a document outlining what the commission wants to focus on in the next five years. Most plans, generally speaking, are unrolled, put on the website, used internally to benchmark against, and accessed periodically by the public. Don't get us wrong, they are most definitely important and useful, but we wanted to do something a little different over the next five years.
What makes this plan so different?
The newest plan, the 2020-2025 plan, is a call to action! Not just for the Oregon Heritage Commission, but for all heritage organizations to unite their heritage efforts around common goals. The Oregon Heritage Commission intended this plan to be an invitation for individuals and organizations to discuss these goals, consider how they align with institutional and regional opportunities, and join the Commission in this work through a pledge.
So, in the spirit of "pivoting" and being "agile", we have rallied to launch this plan and instead of asking all of you to pledge with us at this moment, we are asking you to incorporate this as a tool for recovery and have provided an insert to the plan on how you can use the plan as a framework for recovery. We still believe these goals are important, now more than ever. Use this time of reopening and recovery to reflect on your mission and goals and see if what we present to you today can inform, inspire, and integrate within your plans for the future. The Oregon Heritage Commission designed this plan as a tool to guide the work of heritage organizations throughout the state. It is intended as a framework to anchor heritage organizations as critical assets serving their entire community. We hope that it will lead to a strong network of heritage organizations contributing to the fabric of the state.
Without further ado, we reveal to you the following:

* Oregon Heritage Plan Recovery Framework Insert<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/2020Plan_Insert_Recovery.pdf>
And finally....(drumroll please....)....the first tool associated with the plan!
We can imagine that this is very overwhelming and with all of the state and county reopening plans, we thought it would be good to provide a suggested path for your organization to start the reopening planning conversation and process. In the spirit of Goal 4: Best Practices, it's critical during this time to not forget the important part of process during an organization's decision-making. We have provided a process-based path for your organization to start this conversation<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/Reopening%20Conversation.pdf>. We will also be having a phone call next week focused on reopening so we encourage you to take a look at this tool, look at the included guidelines, start the conversation and come to the call with questions, concerns, and ideas.
